I know the pain, after passing the stone. Doctor told me to drink plenty of Cranberry juice. Should drink more that I do, but I think that it helps, along with plenty of water. Good luck at the Doctor!

OUCH, several years ago my wife had some surgery, well shortly there after she developed some pain, which she attributed to the surgery. It got worse, I kept telling her to visit the doctor but finally it got so bad I gave her no choice. This was Easter Eve (Holy Saturday). I took her to the ER. Doctor listened to her story and, well, I have a bit of skill at reading body language, he was worried about liability as she was maxing out on pain killers and the symptoms she recited sounded a lot like ... Too many.
Then he got the lab reports back, Something wrong with the bladder, infection, and upon further testing they found Gall Stones. (Nice and easy to treat from a medical standpoint, Bloodless surgery (Sonic sledge hammer breaks them up)
Result. Even my wife could tell the doctor was relieved about something (She just had no clue as to what) So Easter morn I show up at church at Oh-Dark-30 and sing the sunrise mass, Then the 9am mass, call her to find they are processing her discharge, hop over to the hospital (Actually I could have saved time and WALKED two blocks, but I drove about 7) picked her up so she could make it to church for the 11am.
That was one LONG weekend
(I spent about 4 hours in Church Good Friday, Fr.'s health was declining so the vast majority of the Good Friday worship was moved from him to the Music ministry. Stan, Steve, And myself)
Alas,,, I got to sing at Fr.s funeral later that summer. And my Daughter and Dr. (of Music) Sara came to play flute. But the good news is we got a new pastor.
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

Yup,
I started getting mine in 1988. I have had them about every three years since. I tried a lot of things to stop them. I take Allipurinol now and that didn't work but extended the time between them to four years! Great, huh? I guess I just have to live with them and sit out a day when they hit. I had some blasted in 1995 in Denver and that worked okay. The little bits STILL have to be passed though. They don't just tickle when they do. My last time was two days after I brought my wife home from the hospital after cancer surgery in September. What a pair we made then, both in pain! I took about 5 Advils and waited for it to go away. Took about 4 hours and I was done. I recovered and she still is.

I would recommend using 1 tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar each and every day. It is not the best tasting remedy but it has worked for all the people I know including DW.

I have watched Dh suffer from the pain of kidney stones. I am sorry that your Christmas had to be spent in the emergency room.

That's about as close to giving birth as a guy is likely to experience! I do feel for you - I had to pass one last month and it was 9.9mm which was the biggest the doc had seen yet. Try the apple cider vinegar in a glass of water with honey (I drink it in tea with honey) it really does help from all I've been told. Hope the rest of your holidays go smoothly!

I spent this past Thanksgiving with kidney stones. It was my first experience with them and your description of the pain is pretty accurate but in my case it was hits with a baseball bat that alternated between my back and groin!

Pete42, man I feel for you. I have had so many kidney stones in the past 30 years I could have paved my drive way with them. I carry pain pills with me wherever I go. Hope you get feeling better soon. Have a great (stoneless) new year.
