hello every one!

Has anyone found a way or a product that replaces the regular 12v light bulbs with something that isn't a bright and harsh?

i'm looking for something like a dimmer (less bright) bulb or something like that. my wifes answer is to take extra lamps with softer bulbs, but i can't stand not using what is already in place. i found a site with a dimmer switch, but it's not really plug and play.

Any suggestions?

Do you have lights with the round base or flat base? Sorry I don't know the correct terminology...any way, if you go to a really good Wal-Mart, you can find bulbs of lower wattage - look in the automotive section, not the camper section...another suggestion is to take a bulb to an auto parts store and see what you can find. This is one of the first things I do when I get a new camper!

Many folks have found the replacing the fixtures and installing florescent lighting not only saves power but makes for more pleasant lighting.

Many of your RV and auto blubs can be replaced by LED replacements. Take a look at this WEB siteLEDS

They make a dimmer switch for 120 volt use. It might could be used on 12 volt also.

Most trailers come with 921 bulbs in the fixtures, these are 21 watt bulbs.

You can replace them with 912 bulbs, 11.6 watts. Or 918 bulbs, 6.5 watts if you want a real dim light.

Nope, 120v dimmers only work on AC as they "clip" the sine-wave.
Have not seen any solid state dimmers for 12V DC but it is certainly theoretically possible to make them. Simple rheostat would work (like your car dash lights) but is inefficient and would get hot.

I did what GaryUT suggest went to Auto Zone store with bulb in hand and picked up the lower watt bulbs. They worked just fine it and it was quick and cheap fix.
