Does anyone have a Trailsaver 5 wh. hitch from Hensley? I guess I should have asked for an opinion before I bought the hitch, but at the time when I was at the Harrisburg rv show last Sept. it looked like a sound investment and still does. It's being installed this Friday and I'm looking forward to hitching up the trailer for a trial run. The hitch is designed with an airbag and a compressor controlled (optional) from the dash.
How do you like the hitch for hooking up and performance? I had a Hitchiker before and it kept getting jambed up upon disengagement. Fore and aft banging wasn't too severe, but was an annoyance nonetheless.

We have the TrailerSaver hitch and love it. It is very easy to hook up. Just be sure you release ALL the air from the hitch before you hook and unhook

We also have a Trailersaver hitch and have used it on 3 rigs over he past 4 years. I needed to buy the 2" hitch height extenders for one of the rigs. This is the greatest hitch I have any experience with and I would not trade it for any other. It'll hitching and unhitching is easy and trouble free. It is a wonder watching the rig gently move up and down as we tow. No slamming or banging as we go over small undulations. It is great.

Now, there are a few things I would like better. The height can only be adjusted by installing the 2" risers or not. No bolts to change holes as in a Reese or other hitches. It is also very HEAVY. Not easily removed from the truck -- in fact, I have not been able to move it at all. It weighs about 250 or more lbs. Eventually I will mount a pulley or winch on the garage ceiling and use that to remove the hitch when needed. The lubrication points only seem to lube towards the inside of the assembly. Not towards the outside of the assembly. I sometimes hear squeaking as the head rides up and down, but it is not a big deal. I lube the zerts every couple days if we are on a long trip.

The post above this says to release all the air before hitching or unhitching. I do not agree with this process. I leave the air pressure set at all times. It does bleed off in temp and altitude changes, as the air in your tires will also. Part of the reason I like this air hitch is I have the ability to increase air pressure to raise the front of the trailer if needed because of a twisting motion if the trailer might hit the bed rails of the truck. If I removed all the air before unhitching the bed rails might hit if the truck and trailer are not perfectly level. I see no reason to release the air pressure, just my .02 worth. I believe you will love this hitch, IMHO.

We also have the trailersaver hitch. Very happy with it. Also the company gets right back to you when you email them a question or two. Unlike Atwood Mobile Products when I had a question about out jacks on the trailer.

Well said! We, too, have the Trailersaver hitch and are VERY happy with both the hitch and Hensley Mfg. Installation was straight forward and the mounting drawings (hole patterns) were spot on. Hensley made it a very, very nice transaction including 2 day shipping. Better eat plenty of Wheaties before you attempt to wrestle it into/onto the truck !

Totally agree w/ Dianne. If you don't have all the air out of the hitch, when the weight of the pin actually clears the jaws, the hitch will rise up faster than you can pull away and the hitch will 'slap' the hitch pin assembly with a fair amount of forces. Also don't see any advantage to leaving air in the hitch. We pull with about 70# of air in the hitch bags which will put the hitch at about the vertical midpoint. Leaving air in not only will result in the hitch rising the remaining halfway slapping the pinbox but also will then stay raised as high as it can go meaning that when you hook up again, you need to raise the trailer pinbox nearly an extra 4" over what you'd raise it if the airbags were deflated.

We had the Trailer Saver in three different Trucks. IMHO it is the best Air Ride hitch on the market with the Hensley head. I would buy another one. It you haven't tow with one you have no idea how well the 5th wheel rides. Good Luck with your choice... GBY....
