Slow down as in the number of days RV'ing or distance traveled? Not even a chance! Slow down as in speed? Not a chance either! We always travel at 57-59 MPH whether the Lance Camper is on the back of the truck with or without the enclosed trailer or the King Troller boat or if the 5th wheel is on the back with or without the boat behind also. We don't care if diesel fuel goes to $5.+ a gallon. Not that it would make us happy! We just know for a fact that we can only expect to live once and we have to still cram our next 100 years of RV'ing into perhaps the next 15 years. We're both almost 66 now! We didn't work for 40+ years only to sit home and stare at the 4 walls or the boob tube. Been to Alaska 4 times already and looking forward to 4 more times min. It's only about a 12,000 mile round trip. We're leaving for Florida with the camper and enclosed trailer after New Years for about 5 weeks to visit a bunch of our family that lives down there. AHHH!!! So much to do and so little time!!! AIN'T no moss growin under our feet!!!! Probably take a casket to alter our pile of plans. That we have no control over.
If you have chosen to live in a state or area that has a sensible "cost of living" structure, you will have more funds left to enjoy your retirement and RV'ing/travels. If not, maybe you should re-paint or re-wallpaper the 4 inside walls in your home every 6 months or year so you can enjoy a change of scenery and buy a BIG new TV. Actual RV'ing sure sounds better to us.
Not going to get any cheaper in the coming years!!!!

Currently wondering how the prices are going to shape up next year, along with loss of income thanks to you folks not buying your $7 eggs, our entire Christmas season was slow this year, and my hours never crested 19 a week. Not much money to live on, let alone even dream of using the camper for anything other than a nice driveway ornament.

I have slowed down...my Dodge diesels have been like sports cars (75 plus) and enjoyed gittin there! Now 65 is peaceful and engine runs 1800 or so...good mpg. May bump up some tire size next go around...see what happens. Peak torque on the Cummins 6 is 1600 or so...George

Diesel in Maine at the moment is between $3.65 and $3.79 a gallon but the F-350 is in the garage for the winter. Host is buried in snow with another storm coming in. I'll just be dreaming until we dig it out and head off on another trip. By then diesel could be $4.00-$4.25 but we're going anyway. I'm not going to end up in the nursing home thinking of all the places I never got to see. Yes it will hurt the $$$ but the only alternative is to sell the truck and TC and sit and stare at the walls. No thanks.

Well it has slowed down my travel this winter only due to the snow and cold weather a foot of the white stuff and 2.5 degrees on the home weather station this morning. Just as soon as it gets above freezing at nights we will be off spending our kids inheritance again
Take care Ken

Retirement is great if you love travel. Planning a trip to the Gulf Coast starting in February. Then Alaska this Summer.
The Truck Camper makes it affordable. But not cheap!
We were in Scandinavia last summer and let me tell you their fuel prices make ours seem a real bargain.

We have been driving at speeds no greater than 58mph for the last 5 years. Most of the time 55 mph. That seems to be where the numbers give us the best mpg.
I found numbers by others that are very close to the ones tat I ran for our truck camper combo.

And we intend to take another extended trip in February.

I have not slowed down. speed wise or Camping wise.

I have not slowed down in any fashion. I really like the I-hwys in the USA on the most part except around the major cities. You diesel fuel is considerably cheaper (17%) so I take advantage of it as much as possible. Our last trip to Vegas about a month ago the diesel averaged $3.50 per US gallon from the Washington state/BC border to Vegas. It's a lot better then the $4.20 per US gallon on average here in BC...........................

Way down! The 400 bucks for gas to get to work everyday doesn't leave much for the rig.
