Retired guy, if I drive 55 instead of 65 I loose about an hour on a 400 mile trip, save at a minimum $25 dollars in gas expense, have a less stressful trip, and pay for my nights stay, almost. The slow down and smell the roses applies in my case. I now enjoy the more time to waste then money position in life. Having a great time out there so see no change in that in the near future.

Way down! The 400 bucks for gas to get to work everyday doesn't leave much for the rig.

$400 every day.. maybe you should move closer to work

I'm assuming you mean per month..

Assuming you get 15mpg that means your driving about 90 miles a day, really you should consider living closer to work, assuming that's all freeway at 60mph that's 1.5 hours of your life spent just getting to work and back every day.. pretty depressing to spend that big a chunk of your life on an activity like commuting.

I haven't slowed down mph wise because I never went too fast anyway. Fuel prices haven't done anything to me as I make my own fuel. But what has slowed me down is my health. My body is giving up the active life. It takes me too long to get ready for a trip and when I am ready I am too tired to get going. Oh well, just the way things work out, I never expected to get this far anyway.

This hits clsoe to home...I drive 2 hours a day (round trip) to work....but unlike those that spend that much time to go ten miles each way in some urban areas (like Houston) I go 41 miles and 3000 vertical feet! I at least get some good views. But that's why I drive a mid-30's MPG Corolla to work.

We will perhaps take shorter trips with higher gas prices, but that is a week to week sort of decision.

My, there are a lot of people with reading problems on this forum. They can turn 400 miles into $400 that is amazing....None the less, just opinions and what works for one does not always work for all.

400 bucks means $400 most places. and he said "400 bucks"

He said $80 5x a month.... again $400.

When we are home we get 54 mpg in our Prius... we fill it up 1x a month with 10 gallons of gasoline.

I can't wait to get the big dog diesel out again.

This year will be the first full year with the TC, and I have more trips planned than vacation time allowed. So no, I haven't slowed down in the number of trips, just take my time to conserve some gas out and back. The 2nd trip I take is one I do every year, and last year I did it with the truck and tent, the year before I stayed in my van, and the year before that I had the pop up trailer, each time using 1 1/2 tanks of gas. The thing I notice is now I spend more time out camping and doing things on the weekend with or without the kids than I did when I was married to my ex wife.
