With my astounding $156 paycheck for this week, I'm beginning to wonder if the camper will being doing anything at all this year besides sit and get dirty.

I drive my big truck to work & it costs about $56 per month. My wife does a lot of driving when on vac. which lets me look at the map & say lets take this little road! So I'm lucky, but filling up 2 and sometimes 3 times a day last summer on 2 different vactions did get expensive. We may have to modify distance, but we got to go, the kids are only young for a short time! We get about 9.5 to 11 mpg with the camper. Darn map picture!

When fuel was cheap our incomes were. If you compare the cost of fuel now to your income to the cost of fuel then and your income you find that it is really costing us lest then it then.

I've slowed down by not going in to the office. I work from home, and my truck sits idle in the garage. I try to get it out for a good 20-30 minute run every week, if I don't go somewhere on the weekends.

Of course I can make up for that in one trip to Nevada...

THINK ABOUT WHAT YOUR SAYING HERE!!!!!!

.....

Back on topic....
I used to drive everything/everwhere like it didn't have a throttle, just an on/off switch.

Now I drive at or below the speed limit all the time. Miliage in my CTD went up almost 4mpg. In the Jeep it only went up about 2. And I find I am less tired/stressed when I get where I am going than when I used to....

Wow! you are doing a lot better than most. you must have doubled your income in the last year.

You must be the CEO of an Oil Company... or are a contractor in Iraq.

Last Jan 2nd oil was $56/ barrel, this year on Jan 2nd it was $100/barrel.

I bought the truck and camper to go places. It makes no sense to me having it sitting in the driveway held hostage to high fuel prices. Today is the cheapest time to travel tomorrow will be more expensive. If I need to economize, I'll stop drinking beer.

I agree with you Al... my wife and I will agree to drink only California Vintage Box wines from plastic cups but we are going to travel slowly with a robust flavor.

I have slowed down a little bit to save money. I prefer to be moving slower than traffic on a multi-lane road anyways. I don't think the price of gas will significantly change my camper driving habits until it reaches $5/gallon.

It's all a matter of priorities of ones funds. I live 4.5 miles from work and have a daily driver that gets 22 - 24 doing that short in town trip day in day out. So my fuel expenses are relatively low on a daily basis. My house is smaller, and so are my mortgage payments. No kids to put thru college. I only drive my big diesel dually when I need a truck, so it sits and holds its value by being a low mileage vehicle. I won't like paying $500 for fuel during a long trip, but it won't mean I won't do it. Life is too short not to live it.
Choices. thats all.

And Joe...
Damn. Hope things improve on the next paycheck.
