Can anyone recommend some nice campgrounds in Idaho? We are thinking of visiting from Alberta, Canada this summer, but don't know the area at all. I know there are a lot of campgrounds to choose from, so hoping to get some recommendations.

We would like hook ups but not totally necessary. We like campgrounds that are treed and have quite private sites and preferably a playground as I have 3 small kids. Also, I want to be close to some fly fishing.

I'd appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks,

One of our very favorite parks is Three Island Crossing State Park in Glenns Ferry. It's a beautiful park on the Snake River with lots of Oregon Trail history. Water & electric hookups.

Massacre Rocks State Park at American Falls is also nice. I'm sure there are many more we haven't visited.

An adventure for the kids would be Craters of the moon, but not recommended in mid summer.

Riley Creek, it is a Corp of Engineers cg. Right on the Pend Orielle River/Lake. We stayed there every year for 5 years that we lived in the Spokane area. Sites are large and trees do a great job of providing privacy. Decent playground, large open areas to play ball in and excellent hosts year after year. Couple of full hook up sites but good dump station on site. PM me if you need specific site info.

I have a suggestion that might work--Royal Gorge Resort between Salmon and Challis. Lovely little campground right on the Salmon river, playground for children, full hook up sites, and very nice folks who own the place. It was clean and tidy when we were there and very quiet. Plenty of hiking possibilities with a natural hot spring on the River. I think they have a web site--give it a look.
