BJ's Brewhouse off of US-83 between McAllen and Mission in the new shopping center.

Excellent food and service. Prices good.

Beer is also good.

We bought a "Fiesta" book for $10.00 last week. It has a lot of coupons for buy 1, get 1 free - especially for restaurants in the McAllan and Mission area. We did use the coupon for Jose Cafe in Weslaco last Friday and the food was very good. We will go back. There were a lot of Mexicans having lunch so we figured the food must be good - the prices were reasonable as well.

Gonzales Burgers not bad. Pepe's was good. Try the tacos. They are monsters and my wife had some shrimp there that were about the size of pork chops.
Pirates Landing in Port Isabel isn't bad either, but can be a bit pricey.

The original Willies Bar-B-Q
320 S Alamo Road
Alamo Texas

From Expressway 83 take the Alamo Rd. exit South past business 83
It is an old run down looking place on the left hand side of the road a few blocks past business 83 in a residential area.

This is the best old fashioned Tex/Mex Bar-B-Q in south Texas.

A few top pics
Sm BBQ Plate 6.75 = 1 meat & choice of 3 sides.
Chopped Pork BBQ Sandwich $3.99
Stuffed Baked Potato Loaded. $5.25 Huge, big enough for 2 to share.
Sliced Beef Brisket Sandwich $3.99
Pinto Beans YUO MUST TRY THESE, they are exceptional.

They have a very large menu that also includes fish, shrimp, chicken and much with many available sides & desserts.

This post is copied from the TheHowserHouse Blog.
They give a colorful & very interesting picture of their time here in the RGV & on the road. I Highly reccomend their blog:

Here is their review:

" With two hours of dancing finished, we four decided to go to 320 S. Alamo Rd to have a late lunch at "Willie's Bar-B-Q".....a highly recommended place and one that is ver popular here in the Valley. Arriving there, a place to park was difficult to locate......cars parked everywhere!! The place is very run down....and, in fact, had we not known the reputation of this cafe....we might have driven on by it. But.........going on inside, we realized that we had to stand in line to go through the line to order and then pick up our food.

WELL.......OMG!!!!! The size and quantity of the food served with each order was preposterous!!!! The 1st Lady and I ordered one of their gigantic "Stuffed Baked Potatoes" and a pulled pork sandwich........to share each dish between the two of us. THAT was a great idea because the size of these two items was.....just unbelieveable!! I have never ever seen such a HUGE potato in my entire life........NEVER! And it was filled with cheese, butter, sour cream, chives, bacon, and then topped with chopped BBQ'ed beef(not hamburger) and covered a wonderful BBQ sauce! Then the pulled pork sandwich was a big as a dinner plate and was amazing in taste, tenderness, and smoky flavored!!! WOW....WOW!!!

It took us a while to eat all of this food....and the price was right...$14.06 which included two LARGE drinks. Will we go back??? Do I recommend it to all of you?????? HELL YES!!!!! For those of you readers here in the RGV who have not eaten at Willie's........GO QUICKLY!!!!! You do want to allow time so that you can return and give it another try......the menu is comprehensive.....and requires several visits. "

We came across this one, and it's GREAT! It's called Mi Challita's (not certain of exact spelling) and it's right in the center of a little strip mall on the west side of Brian Road (Hwy 396), a few blocks north of the US 83 Expressway, in Mission. The food is great, and the prices are outstanding. No beer or liquor, but the food makes the trip worthwhile. We also tried Riverside for the pork tenderloin, and I was disappointed. It was like a frozen patty, deep fried and put on a hamburger bun. I guess I was expecting more. Also tried Fat Daddy's and found the barbeque beef fair, but have had much better. The portions are enormous however. Pepi's was everything we heard it would be, and the catfish and taco's were great we thought.
