Any body using it on a mac?
Yes, I am using the USB version on two Macs - a new MacBook Pro and an older iBook. We have had no compatibility problem with either one.

Is your air card revision A capable? Also have you downloaded the newest software upgrade for your service? Also the speed is dependant on your location, if you are not in an area with rev A coverage it reverts to Rev 0 coverage which is slow.
Yes it is Rev A capable and we have Rev A service with 4 bars at the house. Even with the best service that is technically possible there is no way an Air Card is going to be as fast as Road Runner as you claim, or even close. Perhaps your RR service is much slower than ours.

I am not bashing your choice. After all, we have it also. I just don't want people who read this thread to be mislead.

We just went through this. We looked at the Verizon Aircard, but decided against it because of the 1 year minimum contract. Some places we travel do not get a signal that Verizon can use, and due to our jobs, we are stuck there 3 to 6 months at a time. Did not want to be locked into a contract that we couldn't use. Instead of the Aircard though, we went with the data-package and use a Verizon cell-phone as a modem. Same monthly charge for unlimited access, and no minutes charged to your phone. The thing we like about the data-package over the Aircard is we can turn it on and off whenever we want, no penalties. That way, if we get stuck in a no-Verizon signal area for an extended time, we just turn off the data-package and are not paying for something we cannot use. When we get back to "civilization", we can turn it back on and start using it again.

We have dumped the landline phone and been using AT&T cell phones and a Sprint aircard/KR1 router for well over a year. Very happy with both services. A lot a flexibility and fairly reasonable costs.

Found out yesterday at the Verizon store that we can use my wife's phone which will have unlimited broadband and will connect to our lap top. The cost is around $59.00 a month and NO ONE YEAR CONTRACT. The guy said we could turn it on and off by just calling Verizon. This should be great since we are taking a long west coast trip this spring.

Saw Verizon had a card for fifty bucks. May be a dumb question, but I assume minutes are charged like a call. Is that right?

No. With the air card, all you pay is the monthly fee which is 60 bucks. There are no minutes involved. You can surff the net 24 hours a day. There is a "limit" of 5GB of data per month and I have only heard of a couple of people getting dropped because they went over. I am a heavy surfer and have never been close to the limit.

I have seen some deals now where you can get the card at no cost.

A place for some info is here, they also can set you up with service and a card. https://3gstore.com/

I acquired my son's old Blackberry and transferred my existing Verizon service to that phone with broadband access. I was told that I could turn the broadband off and on as needed and use the phone normally when not on the road. After my first outing I was disappointed with the reliability of the data connection. Upon returning I called to turn of the data access feature and was told that if I used the Blackberry phone I must subscribe to the data feature full time. Had to transfer service back to my old phone.

At our camping location I normally had a three bar signal out of four but the broadband only worked sometimes. Data connection for the Blackberry was $44.95/mo. with a $15 charge to use as a modem, bringing the monthly charge to $59.95, same as the air card.
