Is there anything new to replace the pitiful Kodiak headlights ? I know it had been discussed last year. I tried the Silver Stars which made very minimal improvement and I also tried the aftermarket buckets someone had posted part #'s for. They do not fit in the stock Kodiak base and would require more modification to the headlight base and frame than I wanted to do.
I was hoping someone found a new easy install fix.

Thanx

Have you checked the actual voltage getting to the headlights?

That is a good suggestion. I replaced the headlight harness on my Landcruiser with a much larger gauge of wire so that more voltage would actually get to the lights.

Short of that, your only option is to get some additional fog/driving lights.

Good luck.

Thanx for those suggestions but this is a 2007 model truck and the poor headlights is a well known problem. I was hoping someone knew of a higher brightness lamp or some type of conversion kit. These trucks use the antique sealed beams.

Al,
When you say "bucket", are you saying that a replacment 4"x6" Diamond Cut similar to these 4x6 Diamond Cut
would not fit in the "buckets" on the Kodiak? I was considering going this route, with some PIAA bulbs. I ended up with the SilverStars (Xmas gift). After installing and adjusting the angles, they seem pretty good. I think if I feel I need more light I will add some Driving Lights.
Good luck, let me know what you end up with.

Those look similar to the ones I got from a place called Car Domain. I just tried to go the site but it looks to have changed. They were called 4X6 conversions. Here is a link to the old thread.http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/19706962/gotomsg/20115731.cfm#20115731
The conversion part that holds the new style bulb looked like the standard sealed beam but was slightly different in almost every dimension. It did not fit properly in the bucket and the outside chrome retainer that screws to the bucket with 4 screws also did not fit. All dimensions were within a 1/4" or so but a different bucket and retainer would have been needed.
If we could find a conversion that fits, we could use the new style bulbs and solve this problem.

AZ99,

I had the same problem also but its not the headlights, its the alignment of the headlights. The Seneca's sit so low in the rear that the low and high beams basically shoot of to the high right in to infinity.

Quick test to see if I'm crazy: Some evening pull your car or other vehicle that has good headlights about 30 to 50 feet from a building, pull your Seneca along beside it, both sets shining on the building. Put both Seneca and car on low beams, they should hit the building at the same height, then do high beams, those should also hit the building at the same height. It takes a hex screwdriver to adjust the Kodiak lights but the screw driver is sold at most hardware stores and Wal-Mart types.

I had my headlights aligned at a certified truck shop that gave me a computer read out and everything, they still stunk. So I got my Expedition and took it to building that had easy access and pointed my headlights on the building. Then I pulled the Seneca up beside it and shined those lights side by side, my low beams were foot higher on the building at about 40 feet away than my Expedition. I lowered them to exactly the heigth of the Expedition's. I did the same with high beams and everything was fantastic. The squatting Seneca's are notorious for this type of thing.

Its like driving a new vehicle at night now.

Hope this helps

Thanx I did adjust them and it helped some but the lighting is still very poor and antiquated for this type vehicle. Mine were not only too high, they also needed to be aimed inward to light the road instead of off to the sides.

The problem is that the Kodiak comes with sealed beams (I believe they are 4616). The conversion 4X6 do not fit so that the bulbs you mentioned could be installed.
