Okay - quick update! Had the Samsung Micro that was recalled. Called company and 8 weeks later have a check in my hand for $200!!

Question: Want to replace with a convection/micro combo but can't find one small enough. They apparently need around 2" clearance all around for airflow. With the location of the cabinet, the space is pretty small. So we are looking at regular micro's. I was smart enough to remove the trim kit before I pitched the old unit. If I find, or I should say, "when" I find a new micro, can I use the old trim kit? I know some manufactures sell a trim kit and if I find one that fits, and they have the kit, I will buy it. But in the event I don't, what do you think??? I just hate to think of reconfiguring the whole cabinet just for a micro. But I keeping thinking, how else do you warm hot chocolate and peppermint schnapps??? LOL LOL LOL

Thanks in advance for the help. P.S. Already have 3 trips booked and paid for - spring is right around the corner. (60 degrees in MI today!!)

I wouldn't think trim for one microwave would work on a different make and model. If you stick with the same brand you may luck out and be able to reuse the one you saved. If the microwave came with your rig you may contact the mfgr, to see if they have a suitable replacement. Lots of luck. Oh, GO BLUE.

I guess I must be missing something here. Why didn't you just have them fix the microwave? Mine was recalled, they fixed it, re-installed it in the same hole. Effortless on my part.

I did have it fixed under the recall and the very next weekend, it was doing the same thing! Mainly because I felt the unit was unsafe, they replaced at the tune of $200!

When I e-mailed them and asked if the part in mine had been changed that was messed up since I bought it used and they said by the serial number that it was. So what was wrong with them in the first place? WHat were they doing or not doing?

The unit would just stop running, like the electricity had been cut or a fuse had blown. Apparently the problem was the control panel shorting out. When I was talking with Samsung, the CS rep shared a story of another customer that left the campground on a day trip and returned to his trailer full of smoke. They stored bread, popcorn etc inside the micro and it started on its own, causing severe damage. After the first attempt and failure of repairing, I insisted on a new unit.

Ours started on it's own. Very scary - we were ready to replace it and I was checking for dimensions for a new one, and found the recall. I called, a guy came out and fixed it and it's good as new!

This didn't come from me!! You could tell them it keeps going out again and you don't feel safe camping with small children with a micro that might start-up causing major problems. I bet they would rather replace the unit than get sued! Again, this didn't come from me!

Our Samsung was on recall and we called them 2 weeks before Chrismas 07
and they said a dealer would call then come and repair. We haven't heard from
anyone. How long does it usually take for repairs ?
