Hi folks,

I'm looking for a place to camp for our trip to Busch Gardens Tampa in April. I searched the archives and found one post on the subject and one person responded recommending Bay Bayou, which sounds like an okay place. Anyone have any experience with Bay Bayou in Tampa? It's expensive - $48/night was the quote. And, like many Florida parks, they seem like they're not quite sure they allow kids. This was a funny one - yes, kids are okay, but only for a week. Well, hey, I get tired of my kids after a week, too ;-).

Anyway, if anyone has a better idea about where to stay for a trip to Busch Gardens, please tell me about it. I guess I don't mind the price toooooo much, but it wouldn't hurt to find a more reasonable place. I do want a pool, though.

Thanks!
Sharon

In the past while in Tampa, we have stayed and Bay Bayou and will be there in 4 weeks for a 2 week period. Very nice campground. They are expanding there campground and have made upgrades through out the entire campground. Yes the have a pool, laundry rooms and bathhouses. Under new management since last year. Seems they are putting money into this place. The campground is about 25 minutes from Busch Gardens. Check out their web site www.baybayou.com for more info. Alot to do in the Tampa area. Disney is about 1 1/2 hr drive.

If you haven't made reservations, Lazydays RV has a park called Rallye Park. It's near enough to Busch Gardens, has great amenities and is cheaper than Bay Bayou. Breakfast, lunch used to be included and a free newspaper. Nice pool! Link below. Have a great time!

We visit our son in college there from time to time. We only stay at Happy Traveler RV Park off I-75 on Fowler Ave. About 2.5 miles to Busch Gardens. It is full of Snow Birds and they keep 22 sites for overnighters. Happy Traveler About $29.00 a day. A short drive on 4 lane road to Busch gardens and other activities.

Have stayed at BB and very recently at Happy Traveler. Would recommend HT because of the proximity to no only BG but everything else. BB is really a distance from everything and the traffic on the main drag was terrible. HT is only about 4 miles from Busch Gardens.

We were at Happy Traveler last week. I was not thrilled with the campground itself (sites are back-in, roads are tight, sites are very close together, many people weren't keeping their sites very neat, etc.). But it was extremely convenient to BG and everything else. We only stayed two nights and weren't in the campground except to sleep, so it served our purpose okay. I wouldn't want to stay there for long, or if I were going to be hanging out at the campground much.

We wanted to stay at Bay Bayou, but they have pet restrictions that ruled them out for us.

We have stayed at Rally Park and at Happy Traveler. Both are ok, but our favorite place is Hillsborough River State Park. Only downside is the sites only have water and electric. There is a dump station. Most of the sites are big, some are pull through. It's close to Busch Gardens. I'm not familiar with Bay Bayou.
