It's not like the old days, Vegas is now two million people strong. I'm branching out, thinking the Oasis, and I'd love any insights into the place.
First, is the Silverton walkable from the Oasis?
Second, is it a safe walk?
Third, are the shuttles reliable?
Fourth, any ideas for keeping costs down at the place? A membership to something that is not a lifetime investment maybe?
Any new campgrounds (in town) on the horizon?
Places that you just love that are out of town? State parks, forest service campgrounds that you love?
Through the years I've stayed at Circus Circus (now an overpriced KOA), the California (not comfortable walking to my rig alone at night) and Sam's Town (no real complaints there except I seem to be luckier at the Silverton).
I know this is a broad topic, will you talk Vegas (one of my favorite subjects) with me please?
I believe that Oasis is across the freeway from the Silverton. Not a walk I would like to make. There is a shuttle service that will take you to the Strip for a fee.
I just booked a spot at the New Las Vegas RV Resort (formerly the Holiday Travel RV park). It is not on the strip, but close to Sam's Town. The lady I spoke with on the phone was very nice and helpful. Their web site is still under the name Holiday Travel RV Park.

First, is the Silverton walkable from the Oasis? Not really
Second, is it a safe walk? Lots of traffic
Third, are the shuttles reliable? We use them all the time and have had them very reliable
Fourth, any ideas for keeping costs down at the place? A membership to something that is not a lifetime investment maybe? They have a thing when you saty so many days you get a free one...other than that I don't know
Any new campgrounds (in town) on the horizon? I have only stayed at the Oasis, Sams and Holiday...shuttles from Sams don't run as late back from the strip

I don't know what kind of rig you have, but if it's a Class A, go online and print out a coupon for The Outdoor Resorts. After you reserve a spot, you will stay free for 5 nights. Outdoor Resorts is on the other side of the I-15 from Oasis. No strings with the stay (I know, I've done it twice). By the way, you can walk to the new Target shopping center, Silverton, etc. from Outdoor Resorts.
We stayed at Oasis for two months (mid-October to mid-December 2007). You get one night free after one month stay. In December, free shuttle service was offered from Oasis to Silverton. You can walk but not recommended. Also, there is free shuttle service to South Point which is south of Oasis. The shuttle service for a fee to the strip was okay but I wouldn't recommend it. It took about 45 minutes to get to the strip and on the return, we waited for an hour to get picked up Caesar's and had to transfer at Mandalay where we waited for another 45 minutes for the shuttle back to Oasis and it wasn't a busy night. The shuttle does take you to various locations grocery store, outlet mall, the Strip, etc. but you need to transfer shuttles at Mandalay if you want to go north on the strip. There is plenty to do in Las Vegas you just need to find the right tour group, etc.
Good Luck with your decision.
Happy RVing!

The advice on Outdoor Resorts is good (for Class A's) - very nice resort.
You could in theory walk to the Silverton from the Oasis but you would need a long rest when you arrived and what's the fun in that!. Oasis is ok but noisy and they only offer paid WiFi and you need to be close to an antenna to get it.
There are quite a few on Boulder Highway but then you are limited to playing at Boulder or Sams Town (or the smaller local joints) or paying for an expensive taxi into the Strip.
A few up towards the North such as Arizona Charlies et al but you really need your own transportation.
I did hear a rumor that the Silverton (I play Poker there) may be considering bringing the RV park back as they had a huge amount of traffic from it - watch this space.....
So, you are either stuck with Oasis or Boulder Highway I'm afraid.
