I know this is not related to an RV but it is just a reminder of what can happen if you have a gas leak, in you home or in your RV. Thank god Wayne was not at home at the time. My family tells me that not only did he smell gas but the gas company did come out and found nothing. The state fire marshal says it was caused by a gas leak outside the home but it does seem strange that within a week of getting a new furnace this happens.

Just shows the power of the gas. Somewhat off, but this explosion was caused by liquid propane getting under a bldg and converting to gas and igniting. Makes you have more respect for LPG.

The current video states they found the underground leak and it had traveled into the home through a vent for the basement fireplace. The guy picked a good evening to go out to dinner.

Propane can be very explosive. One thing that makes a MH safer (but far from completely safe) is that LP vapor is heavier than air. It will seek the lowest level, which means it will (hopefully) leak through door seals and other small openings and out of the MH. On the other hand, if you smell LP or the detector goes off, leave the MH----and don't turn on any light switches on way out which cause a spark and set off an explosion.

Propane has an expansion ratio of 270:1 so it doesn't take much liquid fuel at all to cause a large explosion.

It was natural gas not propane. This makes this whole thing even more spooky.

I had a customer that owns a business call me about a gas leak one time. He also had called the gas company and they could not find it. Actually they missed all 6 of them. I found the leaks with an electronic combustible gas detector. ALL of his gas ball valves at each gas appliance were leaking. The gas company employees may not have the proper testers to find leaks even though you would presume that they would. The thing to remember is whenever you change any gas appliance (furnace, water heater, stove, dryer, etc) ALWAYS replace the gas ball valve and flex connector. I would bet the ball valve was leaking after the new furnace was installed at your cousin's home.

And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

The other good thing about RV's (MH's, 5ers, TT's, etc) is that they all come equipped with a gas detector. Makes ya wonder why it's not required in homes like smoke and CO detectors are.
