Should be throwing codes if this is the case. He could go to Kragen autoparts or some other and have the codes read.....I know Kragen does it for free.
In the old days it was an easy issue....Carb, fuel pump, condenser, coil or points......Dang I miss those days.

True Jim, but with the 02-03's there were instances where codes would not "freeze" (fixed mid year). They will stay locked in however and should come up with a reader.
Yes! I too miss those days, ya always carried points, cap, rotor, etc. Now we just hook up the old laptop and reflash an eprom!! I watched my son and a couple of guys do his Duramax. With the change in power curve they got, it would take guys like us a whole weekend of busted knuckles and endless tweaking to even make a difference let alone an improvement!!! Hell, even my Harley is fuel injected and uses a "chip"!!! may as well throw away the tools except for a filter wrench and filler spout!!!

One of those was what made mine do that a couple years ago.

Could be the fuel pump starting to go bad. A lot of people have had the fuel pumps fail, including mine, on the Chevy trucks, but I'm not sure what year the fuel pump issue was completely resolved. Mine is a 2001 and it recently failed (100,000 kms). It hesitated during acceleration and eventually just died.

Took it back to the dealer and they now say it is a caracteristic of the truck..
Any ideas??? of anyone have the same issue
Thanks in advance
my wifes '06 1500 cc 5.3 auto does the same with cruise on going down hill at around 2100+ rpm. Look at dieselplace.com web in the 6.0/8.1 gasser forums and it seems to be a common problem.

As oldharleydude mentioned the MAS may be the cause. If it gets dirty it will just cause incorrect readings that still may be within spec so no codes will be thrown. I have seen this where vehicle ran but milage went all to hell, and no codes.
I have since replaced oxygen sensors, the fuel pump and filter, followed by cleaning the mass air flow sensor....still the same...there is no codes in the ecu....it is getting frustrating
i had a very similar problem with a 1988 chevy 350, after a lot of part swapping and head scratching, seems the oil sending unit was bad and because the power to the fuel pump ran trhough the oil guage electric wire it would cause an intermetant shut down/ power loss. put a new oil sending unit on and problem solved

....again, have you properly *hot checked* the transmission fluid level?
What does the fluid look like (i.e. color on the degradation chart)? When was the last time it was changed? At this point, you should have the new Petro-Canada Dexron VI fluid in there(!) Dexron VI is back-serviceable in all Dexron III running tranies.
