When I read the post, I immediately knew what was going on and I felt down deep that she was trying to console herself and her husband , under the circumstances. I also felt she felt lucky she was able to just pick up and go and expressed her feelings, at a time when no one, not even me of all people , should demean it.

I only wish there was someway I could help her and her husband in their time of need. This, to me, certainly isnt the time to be argumentive.

In a perfect world, in a perfect fulltimers' forum for zealots, everyone who tries it for a few years and decides that they prefer to live in a bigger-than-RV house and to keep their RV handy to use as an RV, should forever disappear from the planet never to be heard from again.
On the other hand, if a potential newbie is doing original research and is wanting to hear the "good/bad/ugly", plus options, IMO it would be a disservice not to offer it them. I'm the self-appointed man for the job 'cause whatever you might think are my motives, or my state of fulfillment, is like water off a duck's back. I'll just have to struggle along without whatever you might consider to be something that's missing in my life. I just don't see where/how I could ever be a threat to you.

I wouldn't mind your posts and comments when they are in context to the thread. And, yes, it's good to hear the reasons why people do things - however - hijacking Dianne's simple post - and turning it into an argument simply isn't nice or necessary.

Having lived in a s&b, and now in my rv - yes, it IS easier for me to pick up and go. Yes, if you have an rv in your driveway/on your property/in storage, you also have options - but usually it's not as easy - and for many part-time rver's they can't leave as those of us full-timers can - and I don't think it's as easy for any.

No one says anything is missing in your life, but I must admit that the more I read your posts, I wonder if you feel you are missing something - both when you were full-timing - and now when you have moved back to a s&b.

Loving the rv lifestyle!

Why does someone who doesn't like fulltiming continue to post on this forum for years after they have come off of the road - and post only negative things about fulltiming - is one of the great questions of the universe.

Honestly this is probably one of the most unfriendly forums I've ever belonged to on the internet, in fact other vehicle forums warn people about it when they refer people here for towing or RV information. On the other hand are many people here who are willing to be friendly and help, answer questions, and encourage people to do what works best for them instead of "you must be like us and have a 1 ton truck or class A or you are inferior and a safety risk--those people just need to do the world a favor and make it better by dying.

If you look at the demographics of a campground when you are there, what do you see...some people in there 30's and 40's with kids, Class C motorhomes and travel trailers. Then you see just about as many people in their 60's+ who complain about their younger cocampers speeding through the parks, not going to bed at 8pm, and letting their kids be loud on the playgrounds (what else are kids supposed to do?). Old people are known for being cheap, hateful, loud mouthed, and rude. This generation that dominates the RV scene and this board is the same generation that created such ideas as segregated bathrooms, priority seating for whites, and other social injustices. This is what their generation is still like today and what they will be remembered for. So to answer you question, these people still believe the same things they did in the 40's, 50's and 60's and they still hate anyone who isn't exactly like them. That is why they can't leave people alone who want to be different and full time, tow with a V6, or God forbid use a pop up and a 4 cylinder!

Not all old people are like that, but certainly enough to stand out.

Agreed. Enough to make a good stereotype though ;-)

I have found the complete opposite and in my 6 years on forums have never heard such comments like that from anyone. Actually quite the opposite in fact. This forum is well moderated and the most civil I've been on. I consider most here to be upstanding members. In fact ALL forums have their bad apples, just as we do here. Having been a moderator on here for years I can say with a degree of certainty the above statement is wrong in my opinion. No matter where you go in life whether it be a forum or in public you are going to have disagreement. This forum, it's members and staff for the most part welcome everyone. Kind of like a big family. Over the years I've made super terrific friends here. Having having been a moderator here for years I can say it was one of the most rewarding volunteer positions I've ever held BECAUSE of the members, moderators and staff. Just my opinion and since we have thousands of members I'd say there are a few in agreement with me.

If a person can't take a little negatism or be prepared for negative answers (differing opinions) they probably should be in a forum lol! Arguments? Yep in ALL forums and that's why they are moderated (most). You want to be eaten alive try the "Breach" forum out and if you make it out alive come back here and tell me how bad and unfriendly we are here.

The one thing that kills me is if it's so bad why do the complainers keep coming back day after day? Just my reserved, honest and humble opinion here is all.

Tony

I'm just glad there are so many different opinions. I may have been a full-timer if I had not followed so many RV forums and come to the conclusion that I am really a long term vacationer who likes to drive my RV. I am a sightseer and a history traveler, but I want to come home and plan the next trip. If my DH was in better health I may have made a good full-timer. I also would not make a good snowbird. I don't want to park for more than a day or two. I know I can't afford to keep on the move at today's fuel and campground prices. I don't like to boon-dock because DH has too many disabilities for me to deal with alone. I also don't mind the cold when I'm home, but I would hate it in an RV. So...thanks for all the information. I'm happier knowing I could have made some big mistakes because full-timing sounds like a lot of fun for the right people. I will be heading out in March for the Southwest and take the long way home sometime in June. This will be my third year as a long term vacationer. Maybe I'll try Alaska in 2009.

Among othe things, Beth said:

Yes, during fulltiming and otherwise, I had a perfect drill going for me. I would fetch the paper, fix my breakfast, and I would read and eat, AND watch 'Imus in the Morning'. It was great!
Wonder no more, I have yet to find a suitable replacement for Imus in the Morning.
Therefore, I'm like many others,.....looking for something. It's as simple as that.
If there is a connection between my search and my involvement here on the RV Forums, I can't say 'cause I don't know. But, I do know that my participation here pre-dates my fulltiming experience.
BTW the guy who really has a big problem, what with his wife insisting they quit fulltiming, is Phil Crouch. I pray for that guy, because he talks like there's a big hole in his life. He does NOT like owning and living in a stix/brix. Whereas my wife and I always agree on "everything", even where we're going camping/fishing.

Maybe it's this attitude that makes any forum unfriendly. Have you read what you wrote. When you point a finger, 3 are pointing back at you.

When you talk about or treat elderly people in this manner do you expect them to give you a big hug? One of the best things about this type attitude is that you too will experience old age and wow what a treat you will have when this obnoxious younger generation growls at you.

Have a nice day.... while you can.
