Cherrystone is always a big hit with the kids. Lots to do. Fishing is great. Your can crab clam or fish from the campground beach or piers. Rent a boat for fishing. Or charter on head boats. Fishing is great there you are is a few miles from the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. I should also add you are about 1 1/2 hours away from Bush Gardens and Bush Gardens Is Really lots of fun for the whole family

Check out the Holiday Campground [not KOA] in Virginia Beach. Well maintained with two pools and games for the kids. You get a private lot up at the ocean for camper/car parking only, one block from the beach. You can fish off the piers [2 in VB plus State Seashore Park]. Also freshwater from the lakes nearby or from the Currituck Sound. Surf fishing is good on the ocean south of Sandbridge as well as the Chesapeake Bay.Headboats go out nearby at Rudee Inlet for full day and 1/2 day trips off shore.

Lots of amusments for the kids from small race cars to waterslides within walking/biking distance from the campgrounds.

4th for Cherrystone, we stay there whenever we can; I agree with Laubertimes, the koa in Williamsburg was not very friendly and the sites were very small. We will never stay there again. If you love to fish, Cherrystone is for you.

Try Douthat State Park. Fishing, camping on the lake, swimming, canoeing, hiking, mountain biking, playground, restaurant. The lakeside campground DOES NOT have hookups but it does have showers. The other two campgrounds do have W and E and a dump. All are within walking distance to the lake.
