We are wanting to upgrade to a more spacious trailer and saw that Keystone now has the Cougar Xlite series. We like the large spacious floorplans in these units and the fact that they are half ton towable. I particulary like the 26RLS 5th wheel model because I am already set up to tow a fifth wheel. The problem is that we cannot find any local dealers (within a 300 mile radius) that have any of these units in stock that we could take a look at. Is it because most dealers haven't stocked up on their '08 inventory yet or what?

you will have to ask them why they do not have one in stock.

my guess would be that there has not been much of a call for small 5er's in the past few yrs.

You might want to call Keystone and ask them where the nearest dealer that carries them is. Might also want to check and see if there are any local RV shows...this is the season for the shows.

Somtimes they are so new that the dealers don't have them in stock yet. We went to the RV show the first of Jan and they didn't have a 2008 model, only the 2007? Isn't that what we all go to the shows for is to see the new models? Sometimes they just don't make much since.

It's a vicious circle. The dealers refuse to stock the smaller fivers and then the manufacturers stop building them because there is no demand for them. There is no demand for them because the dealers refuse to stock them and the customer cannot buy what they cannot see. For some reason dealers think everyone needs to buy the 37' model.

I am trying to find the Cougar 291 RLS around me. I want the 2008
and I want a specific color.........where is it?

As a matter of fact I emailed AND faxed 3 dealers this morning
about prices - as I am ready to buy - no trade in either - cash!

I don't know what is going on about this so-called recession,
but not one person has emailed me back or faxed me back anything.

I understand what you're saying, but the 26RLS is really not that small of a trailer. It is right at 30' but only weighs around 6,200 lbs. with a pin weight just over 1,000 lbs. It is similar in size to the regular Cougar 276RLS but is not near as heavy. I could find plenty of the regular Cougar 276RL to look at. Just none of the new Xlite series 5th wheel.

I found my Keystone product by contacting Keystone in Indiana and getting their sales-reps number for my area. I called the rep and he knew what dealers were stocking the trailer I was looking for.

Another thing you need to think about is that the 2009 models are coming out soon (April-May for most manufacturers) so dealers are not stocking any more 2008s than necessary. They don't want them left on their lot when the new ones come out and then they have to discount the leftover ones. It is also like other posters have posted that the biggest percentage of buyers are buying bigger rigs than this so which are you going to stock? The ones that are selling more or the ones that fit a very few customers. The same is true with trucks. Go to the Ford dealer and see how many V10s are on the lot compared to diesels. More people want (at present time) the diesel so that is what they keep in stock. It is hard to find a V10 in stock.

5th wheel trailers towable by half ton pickup are only a small segment of the market. Dealers put their capital into items that appeal to a large segment of the market. When you go to a campground, it is very rare to see a 5er being towed by a half ton. I would imagine if you go to a dealer and express interest, he would be willing to order to fit your specifications. If a unit appeals only to 2% of the market, it means that out of a hundred people who come on his lot only two are interested in that model. JMHO
