I'm pulling right at 8000# with mine and no problem's.
I pull in Tow Haul and 4th gear and that gives me the
best power and lower RPM's and best MPG.

i'VE been wanting a Titan ---- are there problems with brakes or back end leaking.... that's what I've seen on consumer websites. I have a 99 nissan minivan and it's been great compared to my 99 Tahoe

I have a first year Titan and had the brake issues but that's it. All was fixed under Nissan. Most of the problems you read about the Titan were on the first year trucks. Nissan pretty much addressed the problems as the years went on and the new 08 Titan has the much improved and larger brakes. If you ask any owner, I would say 98% love the truck and had no real issues to speak of. You'll always get those few that had something go wrong like every brand out there. It's a great truck.

Just make sure it's had the front brake TSB performed if that '05 is one of the early ones that had the brake issue.

I have towed several thousand miles with a '06 Titan It is a great TV within it's limits. It has plenty of power and a great transmission but it is a 1/2 ton truck. Previous TT was 26 ft. and about 6000 lb. ready to travel. Traded for a 30 ft. TT at 8100 lb. and was not comfortable towing with the Titan. Traded for a Chevy Silverado 2500 HD 6.0 gasser and have no problems towing this trailer.

We pulled alot of miles with this Titan and it did a awesome job. This trailer was right at 8,000lb and 26'ft. I wouldn't go much more. The only thing I didn't like was the gas mileage.
But in the long run the Titan could hang with any of the so called Big 3 1/2 tons.

I have an 06 4x4 and love it as a TV. I'm towing about 6000# and it handles and performs very well. I live in and travel in the Western US and regularly haul the combo up and down 10% plus grades.
That's the good part. Now the rest of the story. I bought the Titan with the Off Road Package so I could use it for moderate 4x4 activity. On my first outing with the local 4x4 club we ran a back country road that was fairly rocky and the only safe and comfortable thing to do was run in low range, first gear at around 5mph and 1500RPM. After a short run under these conditions the engine started lurching off and on. The only way to correct it was to stop, shift to neutral, and back to first.
I won't go into all that I have experienced with Nissan, but it hasn't been encouraging. The dealer and a technical specialist have been very helpful, but Nissan is not. After finally replicating the problem with the Nissan Technical Specialist in the right seat with a computer hooked up I figured we were getting somewhere. Today I just heard that the "factory engineers" are claiming that the truck is doing what it is supposed to do..going into "fail safe" to protect the transmission. This is interesting when it was sold as an Off Road Vehicle and the brochure shows it rock climbing in much rougher terrain than I was subjecting it to.
I'm giving them about another week or two before I start California Lemon Law proceedings.

Double Clutcher is having a problem that I previously haven't heard about on the two forums I participate in. Nissan is like any of the other manufacturers, they have good reps and bad. Also they have good and bad dealers, just as the big 3 do.
Personally, I don't tow yet, but I soon will with my '05Titan SE KC with big tow package.
The '04 and '05 models had problems with poorly cast front rotors. The cooling vents weren't in the center of the casting and thus they tended to warp. Nissan covered repairs under warranty and eventually came out with new rotors and new pad compositions. This solved the problems. Nissan extended the warranty for three years to ensure everyone had their brake problems covered and fixed. The improved brakes were installed on late '05 Titans at the factory. As for the differentials. The rear axles are manufactured by the DANA corporation and similar in size and design to a standard Dana 44. There were some problems with the spider gears failing on some units. Here again, Nissan came up with a new design and routinely replaced the entire axle assembly at no charge as needed. Since the new design, there have been very few problems.
