Kajtek1, the governor speeds I mentioned were from one model year, those might change as they redesign a car or change tires or what ever. Chevy trucks and Suburbans used to cut off at 100mph but I"m not sure if they still do.

Interesting responses. I let my 16 year old drive my new 60,000 Mercedes because that was what I had.

Actually, I bet that the people who post these types of comments probably think that anyone with a 90,000 car is an idiot.

Again I will state the obvious. Any car can be lethal if it can reach a speed in excess of 100 MPH - which is almost every car out there. Trashing the parents simply because they could afford a decent automobile or because their kids were given access to the family car is a little "trailer park trash", if you ask me.

I can see you now, sittin' by the cement pond in your wife-beaters and sandals with white socks talking about those losers with the fancy cars and expensive houses (the ones without wheels) and indoor plumbin' and all -- why they should be charged with killin the kin folk if they ever git in a axceedent!"

Amazing considering that all cars sold in last decade have build in mandatory governors. To my knowledge sport cars are allowed 125 mph max.

There is a youtube video showing this car being driven at 211 MPH. The limiter can be overridden.

The driver was active on a BMW forum I read now and then (for BMW M5's). A number of the younger posters on the forum were incredulous. "I just emailed him yesterday!" "I can't believe it!" "I was just replying to one of his threads!" Young kids with high powered cars. When I was 19, I had a 1978 Datsun King Cab pickup. It could do speeds with 1's and 8's and 0's in them but not all together. The pictures of the car were disturbing to say the least. You can say that 100mph would be just as dangerous. Yes. In some instances yes. But in this one, in that car, no. At 100 mph the abs and traction control would have likely been able to over come much of what he induced by swerving as he braked. But at 180 there simply is no margine for error. Apparently, as well this wasn't the "first" run they'd made that night so the brakes were likely cooked as well. Sucks.

I agree with you. I should have made the point more clear in my original post; sure kids will drive dangerously and carelessly. But what parent would put his child in a car that begs to be driven flat out and can get to 150 mph+? And let him drive around with his friends in it?

Not a parent I want for my kids.
