I bought a small battery charger and want to mount it inside Our T H.
I would like to wire it in so that it charges the battery when the genny is on or hooked to shore power. Its one of those 15A automatic chargers that supposed to drop down to a trickle and maintain the charge and prevent sulfation.
I don't like to leave it plugged in all the time, seems like the stock converter just boils the fluid out of the two 6 Volt Batteries.
I don't want to spend much on replacing the converter, as We plan to move up to a 5 er in the next year or so.
What next?? I ASSume I need to find a place where 110 V and 12 V are available and splice it in.
Any suggestions will be appreciated, and THANKS

I WOULD NOT SPLICE IT INTO ANYTHING! Too easy to forget it's plugged in----don't connect a charger to your converter terminals---same reason!
....if you need to charge, plug it in and connect it to the battery (batteries) when you set up.
If you have more than one battery connected in parallel, the charger connection should be positive/hot charge lead to positive/hot battery terminal on the first battery...negative lead to the negative terminal on the OTHER battery. And still watch your battery acid closely! Not all 15A chargers are created equal!

My RV has "converter/charger under the table seat that has a prewired 110V outlet just for this charger. Anytime the coach see's 110 Volts, it charges the coach battery. I also have a small 5 watt photocell charger on top of the roof A/C that always keeps the battery topped off. My coach also has a relay that connects the coach battery to the engine's charging system, only when the engine is running. You could also do this with your trailer. It means I can camp at Ocotillo for several days on one battery without worry.

Bob,
What converter do you have now?
A Progressive Dynamics 45 amp charger with wizard is available most any time on ebay
for less than $130.00 delivered. Yes it is more money than a small vector charger but will not be a hindrance when trying to sell or trade the trailer down the road and it will treat your expensive batteries right!

Bob, splice into one of the 15 amp plugs and run wire to a new outlet that you put close to your batteries. You can even mount a light switch to make the plug hot only when you want it to.

I have a Xantrex 1000 inverter/converter. Although it has a 3 stage charging process, it doesn't know when to shut off. I put a smart basic remote and now when I see the batts are full I push the "charge" button and it turns off the charger while still having the shore power connected or the genny running. I put a solar panel that puts out a small charge for storage. It has desulphation built into it...In the winter the panel I have struggles to get a full charge, but the summer it should be able to do the trick. ~Brad

since you are getting a new rig in a year, just hook up the charger to the batts when you make camp. it isn't that big a hassle, and you can take the charger out when you need it. if that is too much a hassle for you, get a new converter. that way there is no hassle, the batts get charged correctly, and you won't take a chance of ruining your batts.

Thanks for the info, I will prolly just hook it up when needed.
I have a solar trickle charger, but seems like I forget to hook it up.
