Given that I only have 3 weeks to figure this out I will likely have to do the Pay-as-you-go method like everyone else.

Given the distances I will be traveling (Calif. to Uruapan, Michoacan)it will take allot of cash which is what worries me.....

IAVE system does work. I used it during our month long trip. The trick to getting one is you need a bank account in Mexico. The IAVE system automatically withdraws the funds from your account. It is great to drive up to the toll booth and have thgem wave you on because there is no need to stop.

If you thinking about your toll booth reciept, when using the IAVE system all you do is shown the IAVE to anyone asking for the paper reciept. You are still covered.

The IAVE system is not used on 100% of the toll booths so you will need to stop at some of them and pay as usual but they are far and few between.

I'm glad it worked and we now have a proven case to add to the list here on the rv.net. Great job.

As a resident on an FM2 or FM3 you can open a bank account and receive a credit card.

It is possible to get a Mexican bank account without an FM2/3. Here in QRoo, our neighbor on an FMT (and I've heard this experience recounted by other ex-pats) got a bank account with Santender Serifin. I know this is very particular to each bank branch and probably employee; when I asked at HSBC they told me I needed an FM3.

Right Harvest. A friend came here on tourist visa. He went to Banamex based on a televised promotion for a credit card. He walked in, opened an account, and got a credit/debit card. Hey, anything is worth a try!
