The Weber Grill resturant looks great, we hope to try it for sure.
My daughter is 11 and we were planning to visit the American Girl Doll shop on our visit, thanks again for the idea.
We will be travelling in by train, is the train ride in from Union the same distance as the train from IBSP?
I noticed that we could catch the water taxi not that far from the train station and take it to Navy Pier, after a short visit there we were going to walk back to Michigan Ave and begin our tour of Water Tower, the Magnificient mile and Millennium Park. Would this be possible in a day trip? I thought the water taxi would be a great way to the city? Then we could take a bus back at the end of the day?
Any comments would be great.

Okay, here's an idea. Go to "Google Maps" and search for the "Ogilvie Transportation Center Station" You can move the cursor South and see Union Station about 3 blocks south. Just to the East of the Ogilvie is the River, and right there on Madison St is the dock for the Water Taxi. It's a great idea to take it to Navy Pier, if it stops there, I'm pretty confident it goes to Michigan Avenue. I would consider taking the free trolley bus back from Navy Pier to Michigan Avenue/Millenium Park. See "the Bean", and then walk North along the Mag Mile to Water Tower/American Girl Store. Then return on the bus or trolley. I would say you accomplish all this in one day, if you don't stay at Navy Pier too long. You will be tired, but you can do it!
The suggestion of Google Maps I forgot to say click on "Satellite" you can see that the Station and the Chicago River are right downtown, the river cuts thru the city, so it's a great way to see the city while you get to where you want to go. If you follow the River to the North it curves East and keep going to the Lake and you can see Navy Pier.
It's fun to see it this way and get an idea of where you are going.
When you make reservations by mail don't you get mailed a confirmation letter? I have always made my reservation in Il in person, but we always recieve a print out confirmation. So if you mail in your reservations now you should know in the next several weeks if you have a confirmed site....if not then you can make other plans Just a thought.
Have a great visit in Chicago and at Six Flags.
Thanks for everyone's comments, we have booked the KOA north of Chicago. Unfortunately it is still almost six months away!
We are looking forward to our trip into Chicago and everything it has to offer.
Any suggestions on other things to do or see in the Chicago area or near the campground would be appreciated.
Not necessarily near the CG, but if your little girl is into horses at all, we have a real treasure in this area that you all might enjoy, that being one of the shows that the Tempel Lipizzans put on. They perform late June/early July through August in Wadsworth, IL, Wed AM and Sundays. Very similar to the shows people go to Vienna to see (the horses came from there and the riders trained there), except it's held outside (indoors if raining). Delightful show. They probably don't have their summer schedule or ticket info up yet, but they should still have a website.
Tempel Farms is not too far from IBSP, though, so if you wanted a little beach time while you're visiting, you could make a day of it - go to the show first, then head over to the state park (day use area) to the beach.
Illinois Beach State Park is MUCH closer to Six Flags than KOA is. Both are nice parks though. In fact I used to store my old trailer at the KOA. And if you're into trains and railroads, The Illinois Railway Museum is about 5 minutes away from the KOA. Also the KOA isn't actually in Marengo Illinois, it's really in Union Illinois.

Well welcome to Illinois! I think you`ll like the area, aside from the tollways and traffic.
As for things to do, there is a water park in Rockford (I haven`t been there personally). also Rock Cut SP. in Rockford. There are alot of nice shops in the St. Charles and Geneva area.
Hello, it has been a few months since I first posted my questions. We leave for our trip to the KOA NW of Chicago in 4 days, can't wait!
We are still planning to visit Chicago for 1, maybe 2 day trips and a had a few questions?
We will be taking the Metra train in to the Union station, is it far to walk to Navy Pier, Mag. mile and Millinium Park or we thinking of taking the water taxi, which I believe leaves from Madison St.
When would be the correct time to purchase our return train ticket to the KOA, when we arrive or at the end of the day.
We also wanted to have deep dish pizza one day and definately try a red hot, hot dog while downtown, any suggestions on the best place to go in the mentioned areas.
Any comments and,or suggestions on sites to see and things to do in these areas would be helpful.
