We made it home this afternoon but not before having one more pork tenderloin sandwich. We drove 490 miles yesterday and about 150 miles of those off course to try the Augustana Restaurant in tiny Oxford, Iowa just off I-80 west of Iowa City. The Augustana Restaurant was the Iowa Pork Producers Association 2008 best BPT winner announced about a week ago. Thanks to the GPS and cell phones I was able to make a reservation for 5:30 PM with some certainty only they said because of the announcement and being swamped with standing in line business they couldn't take reservations. I told them I was on the road 175 miles away and was coming from the Grand Canyon and needed a reservation because we did not have time to stand in line lest we have to find a camp site in the dark afterward. That didn't cut it for them so I pulled my hole card and said I was the porktenderloinsandwich.com website owner. That got me a no waiting table right in a small alcove front window. I don't normally go to a restaurant other than Nick's Kitchen announced ahead of time.

They were out of desserts we wanted to try and that turned out to be fortunate as we found a county park campsite just 6 miles away just in time to drive through, see and pick one. Had we stayed for dessert we would have been driving in the dark.

The IPPA got it right. The BPT was outstanding. The restaurant is owned by Katrina hurricane refugees from New Orleans so most of the menu wss LA centric and very good. We had Crawfish beignet appetizers. A fitting end to this trip in anticipation to the LA Social coming up in April. Can't wait.

"That didn't cut it for them so I pulled my hole card and said I was the porktenderloinsandwich.com website owner." Now Dave, call me a naive if you like, but is the above statement true?

Which part? The web site or the wait? They were swamped because of the recent publicity. In fact when we got there the place was filled with motorcyclist. Yes, I am the porktenderloinsandwich.com website owner and it was evident they knew about the website.

Now would anybody else go 150 miles out of their way for a PTS plus use the term "pork tenderloin sandwich" in every other sentence?

McDuff, send me your email address too (go to my profile or allow Private Messaging) as Bert and Dulce want to send their regards; I notice your owners DID manage to get ONE photo of you actually looking at the camera!
Has anyone been to Lake Havasu? Friends just came back from 100 degree temps there (it was freezing here) and loved it.

If you go to Lake Havasu, be sure to go to the dog park. I asked at the Information Center, and the lady gave me directions. You go over the London Bridge, drive just a short distance, and take a left, but I can't remember the name of the street. It was a very nice park...not too big but well-maintained. My dogs loved it!

juliev - I also want to Thank You for organizing the rally even though we were not able to go. It provided us with 62 pages of reading material about the fun our friends were having. 2 things - modify the name of this topic to reflect Moab and the date for future reference...and second, where are the pictures taken at the social?
