I'm headed down to Glamis for the first time as a honeymoon with my new wife. Looking at starting our drive Sunday August 17th. I have never pulled my trailer on the sand before and really don't know if I really want to.
My question, where are the best places to camp, ride, get water etc..,
Anything that might help somebody on their first trip down. Being Mid August will it be too hot?
Thanks in advance for all your help.

Strabo is correct, August is not a good time to be out in Glamis, daytime temps would be well in triple digits. If you do go, I would suggest parking on Gecko road, that way you aren't driving in sand toying. Plan on spending daylight hours inside with the air going. You will be riding at night, be sure you have a couple of good GPS's to find your campsite. Good thing would be that you two will be about the only ones out there the sand will be smooth.
Water you will have to bring in, depending on how you come you that would mean Brawley or El Centro.
I would suggest as an alternative you go to Pismo Beach. You will be passing it anyways coming from Oregon.

I agree, that time of year the only dunes I would be visiting are on the coast. I know the Oregon Dunes are in your backyard but there or Pismo would be my choices.

You will instantaneously burst into flames in August. Earliest comfortable time would START between late September up to Halloween, then all the way through March-April at the latest.

Just as a cautionary tale, I seem to recall 4 or 5 years ago some guy from San Diego and his girlfriend were out at Glamis during the summer in a sand rail. Why they were out there at that time of year I have no idea. It ended up breaking down, so he left her and went for help on foot-- no matter as they both died of exposure.
Even in September you are looking at triple-digit heat. It stifling, nasty-hot. Why not go to the river instead? Plenty of places over in Yuma to put in.

110 in the shade, at night it won't get below 90, your chances of honeymoon nookie are decreased dramatically if your new wife is miserable. Your generator will need to be running 24/7 to keep your air conditioner on. Like the others have said, head to Pismo.

Glamis in August for a honeymoon? No wonder she is your NEW wife. I'm guessing your old wife enjoyed cooler climates, like Hell or Mercury. JK
