I'll be coming via Susanville. Anybody know of a good alternate route/shortcut so I don't have to go all the way into Reno/Sparks? I'm wondering if there is another way to get there from the Lemon Valley/Stead area? Thanks for any info!
If you are going SB/395 from Susanville, get off on the Golden Valley exit. Go left, all the way past the high school, over a hill, to the stop light on Sun Valley Blvd. Go left, and, after a few twists and turns, and another hill, you'll be at another stoplight. This is Pyramid Highway. Go left (north) on PH to Moonrocks.
That should cut out about 10-15 miles and 20-30 minutes of driving, since you'll miss most of the stoplights on Pyramid Highway in Sparks. This is the route we take whenever we go to the Moonrocks, Pyramid Lake/range.
Thanks budman, wish you could be there with us at MR. I owe ya a cold one...hope to see ya at the races in september. END QUOTE
Dodger,
I think the Golden Valley Exit is the best route. We went all the way around through McCarren last time and the drive time was a wash, but road is paved the whole way (almost). By cutting off McCarren by going Golden Valley, that is even better, Probably has gas ands water along the way, whereas the other was is nothing after Doyle.

Wow, sounds like we'll see a few RZR's! Maybe Factory UTV will have some of their SWEET UHMW skid plates up there
Looks like we need to add a UTV race to the list of kids races and Mothers Races!!!
But we would have to even up the playing filed like when we put all the mothers on the same little 90cc quad to race.... hmmmmmmm!
It looks like I am going to totally miss CalNevOre this year. We are going to be at the Cow to Cow Regatta at Smith Creek (a playa 45 min past Sand Mountain.) It is a big landsailing event and should be a good time as well.
I was hoping to take Friday off and ride with the hooli's, but I am too short-staffed at work. Sucks to be the boss sometimes.
I am expecting tons of stories and pictures so I can regret not being there.
I am looking for a weekend this summer to host a Hunter Lake Trail day ride. There is a days worth of trail riding up there and some of the most beautiful scenery. Lot's of shade and high altitude, so it is great for a hot mid-summer day. I'll keep y'all posted.
Have fun and be safe!!
