Can anyone out there tell me if my rig comes pre-wired for vent fans? I can't find anything on the mfg's website, nor have they replied to my e-mails. My dealer is useless (Tom Raper). They told me to call the mfg. I'm being quoted a ridiculous price for install. (Over $500 for labor) plus the cost of the fans. They're saying install will run around 2.5 hrs for each fan at $110/hr. I can't bring myself to pay $500 in labor for $300 worth of fans. I would try to tackle this myself, but don't want to do so if the wiring isn't there. I know a little electrical stuff, but would be leery piggybacking onto existing wiring for the overhead lights.

Any help or thoughts you could give me would be appreciated.

Thanks.

This is from a purely logical point of view. Since many units have, or get vent fans, the gut answer is yes. The easiest way to find out, is to remove the handle for the installed vent, take down the inner piece of the vent trim (usually 4 screws, and this won't disturb the roof seal) and take a look. The wiring should be right there.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Good luck,
John

The vent fans can share wiring with other overhead 12V lights as long as your total amps doesn't exceed that circuit. Each bulb may pull around 1/2 amp; and you shouldn't exceed 15-20 amps per circuit. Just make sure you don't have too many lights already wired into the circuit you want to use. The Four Winds 5000 is not pre-wired for Vent or Fantastic fans.

Agree with 149A.
Vents usually have a 12 volt light very close by. I have always used the wiring to these lights to supply power to fans when installed.

CHUCKB: You sent me a pm a while back regarding the Shurflo fans. Camping world's latest catalog lists the gold for $119 (club price), which is the same price I paid in January. The price is good through May. I didn't send this via PM because you don't allow them.

Also, I found the wires for my Thor Vortex about 5" away from the vent opening. Either reach up in there and fish around or grab a flashlight.

Good luck

Having worked a couple years at an RV Dealership, "most all" RV's are Pre-wired at all vents for a 12 Volt fan and in some cases even 110V for an A/C Unit. Pull down the inside cover and fish your hands around and see if you can find some wires. This is what I would have done as an RV Mechanic or would have probably pulled power off of the closest Overhead light. This is actually pretty easy to do. Good luck!
