I'm seeing carbon in my tailpipe. Is this something I should be concerned about. We have a Class C M/H on a Ford E450 chassis with only 3,000 miles on it. Have seen other Class C's with no carbon in the tailpipe

As she breaks in, and you put miles on her, this too shall pass. You're burning some oil right now, and stystems are just cominhg together. After about 20k, you should see a difference.

HI!
What type of OIL do use? Referring to base oil? Not all the stuff they add to the oil.
I assume you have broke in the engine as Ford directed?
Ford are know to use oil. It varies from one QT. each oil change to one every 1000 miles.
I did own one! On some of the older motor(s) it was the PVC system was the culprit. Newer power plants not sure where the problem is.
My current puller is not having that problem. Gaser, V-10. Not a Ford. Its one of the other guy's. w/199,172m's (castrol 10w-30)since brake in)

There are two things that look a lot alike, Burnt oil and carbon, If it is carbon it is a sign the engine has run rich, Now... This is NORMAL under SOME conditions (IE: Cold engine) so it is not the presence of carbon, but the amount, that matters
Alas, beyond that I can not comment. Not enough experience in this area.

Motor running a little rich, wonder what the exhaust valves look like? Use a good quality fuel & put your foot to the floor a freeway speed. This should blow her cleaner.

Reminds me of a Ford Ranger I had a few years back, started getting only 800 miles to the quart and the Ford dealership said it was "well within specs".

It's probably rust ...LOL...have you added any oil?
At 3000 miles I doubt very much that you have a problem.
If you think you do...take it to your Ford dealer to check it out..
I have a V10 with 60000 miles on it..and it never requires topping up between 3000 mile oil changes...and my previous Ford MH with a 460 and 100000 miles never needed topping up either.
Use it and have fun!!

My V-10 in my class A had a sooty tailpipe but didn't use any oil nor get poor gas mileage. At about 15,000 miles I wiped out the inside of the tailpipe and the soot has not reappeared in the last 3,000 miles. I think that the long exhaust system cools down the exhaust so much that the soot doesn't get burned out like it would in a short car system.

gperky's explantion matches what Workhorse told me about black soot in my exhaust. The exhaust gases cool down in the long exhaust many of our motohomes have and leaves exhaust residue in the exhaust tips. Doesn't matter if it's Ford or Workhorse.
