as far as I've heard so far no special licence needed up here in Ontario Canada

I talked to a guy that had a converted big rig pulling a toy hauler he only had a (G) general licence. He looked into it and as long as it is for personal use and has not for hire on the door no other licence needed. I have my (D) straight truck with (Z) air brake endorsment. I was thinking of going for the (A) but desided I didn't want to do the retesting and medicals.

Like stated what does the endorsment do for you if you had to take a course to get it then I see a use for it but to just do a test with no road test makes no diff to a drivers ability. Just sounds like a cash grab to me.

I do all my DMV work through the AAA, I will see what they know. And like earlier people stated the Dems want the govt to run our health care. God help us.

DutchmenSport, you didn't tell all of the story about the Indiana DMV. Because of the software snafu and the closing of many branch offices, wait times increased dramatically. What did they do? They removed the clocks from the walls and turned the chairs in the waiting area around so that customers would be less likely be realize the long wait times. Unbelievable but true.

Glad I have my Class A CDL (Commercial Drivers License), with endorsements T &X (May drop the X {Hazardous material & Tanker}, because of expensive background check)

Don't let the Ia DOT see this, as WE will be next!

I went to take the endorsment test last year and the DMV employee who got me started said she had been there 20 years and I was the first one she ever gave the test to. Its no big test but I brought the RV brocure with me to show them what to do. Each time I went to the desk to talk to an employee it required about 3 of them to huddle together to figure things out.

You're supposed to have a Class A license to tow anything with a gross weight of over 4600 kg (10,000 pounds) or if your combination is over 11,000 kg. Above 4,600 kg your Ontario Class G license is invalid, which makes your insurance invalid. The local MTO inspectors started targeting 5th wheels with 3 axles or 2 or more slides last summer on Highway 400 and the fines start at either $5k or $10k. They fine for not having valid insurance in addition to driving out-of-class. The inspector I spoke to said that for a personal vehicle towing an RV you don't have to do circle checks (although it's still a good idea), keep a daily log or stop with the commercial vehicles at the inspection stations. I don't think you need a medical for non-commercial applications but can't find the link on the MTO web site.

Four more years and I will be on Medicare. I can't wait. Last time I checked it seemed like Medicare was doing a pretty good job. If you don't like government running Medicare then don't sign up when you get to be 65. Oh yea, that government run pension they call Social Security is looking pretty good too.

Checked the North Carolina site and found that I will need the Class A, however, no additional info on the non commercial was available. Does anyone here know the details?

Will be moving to NC later this year.

I called 2 offices and spoke to 3 D/L examiners and asked about what was needed. 1 said I needed a class A, the other 2 said no. One office was the regional office in Asheville. I spoke to several local people that drice 3500's and pull heavy trailers and loads and asked them what license they had. All three had class C but did have their trucks tagged for 22K to 25K. Apparently even the examiners don't know.

Took my test in 2004. The C-41 endorsement is basically the 20 question non-commercial class 'A' written with no health or drive test or cost (if your Class 'C' doesn't expire in a given number of days). Everyone I know that has taken this test was handled differently. Some got a new license with the endorsement. Me, all I got was a DMV business card with the good info on it. It took at least 3 different DMV personnel to figure out what the legislature had in mind when they passed that bill. I really feel qualified towing 20k down the road after getting all 20 questions correct. Whew! Our taxes at work!
You should not feel so comfortable. According to your post, you got an endorsement for your class "C" license to tow a trailer up to "15,000 lbs". You stated that you were towing a "20,000 lb." trailer, which means you need a non-commercial class A license. Now are you confused? Our tax dollars a work.
