Here I go again with another few questions:

A year ago I bought two 6V batteries (Interstate, Workaholic, U-2200, C-3 Deep Cycle). My wife left unintentionally the inside lights on for a few days, and now I need to recharge them. I bought the Battery Charger for 6 and 12 Volts batteries (made by “Schumacher Electric Corp”, Model 600A).

I disconnected the batteries and after couple of hours when I checked the charge it only showed 6.18 Volts. Since the battery was down to 6.00 Volts, I wonder if (1) the battery charger I bought is the right one to fully charge the Deep Cycle batteries or do I need to look for another charger? (2) And if so, what would you recommend for me to buy?

(3) Also, what volt reading should I have on my digital multimeter once the single 6 Volt battery is fully charged?

Thanks for all the help!

What you should have done was charge the batteries together, just like one big 12 volt battery, the same way you use them.

We need more information about the charger. What is its rating? Did you have the switches set correctly? Why did you split the batteries? They should be wired in series and you should charge them as a 12 volt battery. This web site should tell you how to wire and charge your batteries. The 12volt Side of Life

Most battery chargers will bring the voltage up to about 50% then reduce the charging amps. It will probably take charging overnight to get them fully charged.

1) That charger is fine. Use the 6 volt setting to charge one at a time or both connected in parallel, use the 12 volt setting to charge both together in series.

2) The converter built in is probably just fine although it may take 24 hours to charge. Plug in the RV and take the charger back for refund.

3) 6 volt batteries measure exactly half the voltage of a 12 volt battery. Individually they should be 6.30/6.35 when fully charged and rested.
