Sorry you didnt approve of their opinion.

It wasn't thier opinion, lol. It was yours and you drive a Dodge. Topic was "Ford 6.4L owners, I need your inputs" What part of that confused you?

Not confusing at all - Greg B provided two opinions, of people that he knows that own a 6.4 Diesel. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Ironically, your own words, kghenson, just proved the point Greg B was making. The mileage you mentioned you are getting with your 6.4, is easily attainable with a V10, and in many cases better with a V10.

That being the case, it really makes one question if diesel is worth the $8k cost, when it gets 'bout the same or possibly less mileage than the V10 engine. Many still go the diesel route for the other advantages it offers, but fuel mileage cannot really be used as the justification for diesel so much anymore.

LOL, OK so like GreggB you also didn't read the question.

Let's see "Ford 6.4L owners, I need your inputs". Seems pretty clear to me.

And yes the V10 is a terrific motor. Not as good as the GM 8.1 was, but the 8.1 has left the field. But again that wasn't the question.

have a nice day and thanks for playing at home.

It is unfortunate that with these forums you can't tell I am cracking up laughing so you are going to think I am upset or on a soapbox. Nope just enjoying the day.

It would be interesting to know what kind of longevity people are getting out of the V10. A diesel used to be purchased for 4 main reasons, better mileage, towing, diesel cheaper than gas and longevity. We know the mileage is on it's way out and diesel is more than gas in many area. If the V10 is capable of reaching 250k miles (longevity on the new diesels hasn't been written yet), the only thing left is the superior towing capability of a diesel, or is it? I have no experience towing anything with a gasser.

457 ft/lbs of torque at 3250 rpm on the V10, great empty. When you tow/haul with one back to back with the 6.4 (650 ft/lbs at 2000 rpm), you'll really feel the difference.

The fuel gauge drops about the same unloaded in both. The nod goes to the diesel, but not by much. Loaded up and hauling/towing, they V10 will get SIGNIFICANTLY less MPG.

This is based on my experience with both.

..Read the latest 'shootout' that pickuptruck.com did on HD trucks, where they tested both towing up a hill. You'll find, that the difference in towing power between the 6.4 diesel and 6.8 V10, is not quite as much as it was in the past, and nowhere near as much as many diesel owners would like us to believe.

..Until that DPF re-generation kicks in.

While towing the exhaust temps are a lot higher than an empty truck so it takes less fuel to regen the DPF. I think that is why we have seen towing mileages on the new diesel trucks basically the same as the '06s but mileage empty seems worse.

My truck gets roughly 12.5 unloaded and 7.3/7.5 loaded with 17+k 5th wheel in profile, 430 rear.

I've got the 08 F250, pull about 7000. Road wise at 60-65 approx 14.3, empty around town 15-16. trick is to keep it below 10-15 psi and kep the foot off the pedal( which is hard to do) love the power and performance. these are hand cal readings not the lie a meter. heading out tomorrow morning for a 14 state run . I golf and collect the state ball. got 23 states so far and hope to get all 50 before i pass. i'll post my mileage between el paso and new orleans on monday afternoon.

Firstly, let me state that I LOVE my truck. Just had the 10K service done, and they reprogramed the computer with the latest firmware to eliminate the excessive regeneration that the computer indicated occurred. Using the dash MPG reading, I was surprised at the effect of speed on fuel consumption. There were 5 adults in the car on the drive from Tucson to Bisbee. At 65MPH got 22 MPG, at 70 MPH got 17-18, and at 75 MPG milage dropped to 14-15. Wish I had done it at 60, may do this week. Average 14 around town, and 8-12 while towing.

The only complaint is that when towing from a stop, going up very steep driveways at RV resorts or my driveway, if feels as if there is no power going to the wheels; almost as if the emergency brake was on.

Love the truck, pulls like a tractor. Mileage could be better but if I couldn't afford the fuel I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. The only problem to date is this grin I can't get off my face every time I fire it up.
