I am pretty sure you will need a different thermostat, the only wires that the run are for the power. A 13k AC is probably fine, though you could get away with an 11k - but a bit more won't hurt. We only had one in ours and did fine on all but the very hottest days.

Heat strips for the most part are a waste of money IMHO. You can buy a good ceramic heater that will put out a lot more heat for less money and less hassle.

I'm going to add one to my Raptor before summer. There have been several occassions where it was needed and I wish I had it. My buddy added one to his when he purchased it, 13.5 Coleman. All I can say is, ICEBOX...

The thermostat on my ad on a/c is in the unit itself.....works great! Be sure to check the circuits when you hook it up...the factory had both a/c units of the same circuit breaker....moved some wires around in the pannel so that both would run at the same time.

I did the very mod you are talking about last summer. Great addition when at the dunes in 90 degree or hotter weather. I used the Coleman 13.5K Mach unit and couldn't be happier. Instalation was a snap once the unit was on the roof. The thermostat is built right into the unit itself and has worked just fine for me. As already mentioned, the only wires pre-run are for power.
