Planning on staying in the Mesa area for a few months next winter but know nothing about any of the campgrounds. Any info on nice campgrounds with lots of activities would be much appreciated.

Val Vista is pretty nice and has a TON of activities. That can be said of most of the "resorts" in the area. We stay there for about 2 weeks every March for baseball spring training. The main reason we picked them over the others was that they were the most dog friendly.

We are currently at Mesa Regal, have friends at Mesa Spirt. There a lots of places. Suggest you stay at a campground for a few days and look around to find what is best for you. None of the parks are full right now. The prices range from 450 - 800 a month PLUS electric.
It also depends on what your interests are.

Val Vista and Mesa Regal have been mentioned and are large parks with all the amenities you can imagine (except in-house golf courses) and so many activities that the monthly newsletter (Mesa Regal) is between 20-25 pages!!

VIEWPOINT GOLF & RV RESORT gets my vote. If you can't find something to do here you must be dead. Golf, tennis, pickle ball, karaoke, poker, billards, shuffle board, Big name shows, (Nelson Brothers)(Lettermen) Dance class, hiking club, and more. Sites are large with concrete pads and, citus trees at all sites. Most of the RVer's are kept in one area so your not cramed in between two park models We have our own laundry/pool/hot tubs/club house and more. Oh yeah and they are dog friendly. Far enough way from the city not to have a lot of traffic but close enough to stores, restaurants and, casinos. Great view of the Superstition Mountains and less polution. Then again that's just my opinion

Phoenix is the 5th largest city in the country and that does not include the surrounding cities of Mesa, Tempe, Scottsdale, Apache Junction, Gendale, etc. They all have rv parks so you might want to expand your search. Here's a map to give you an idea:
