Hey! Has anyone stayed at the campground located within Jim Miller Park in Marietta, GA? It shows on the website that they have 44 sites with electric and water. We could not find anymore information about it. We will be there May 2009 due to the rescue group we are involved (Schnauzer Love Rescue, Inc.) is planning to have a fundraiser event there.
Any and all information will be appreciated!!

There's a campground there? I am surprised but know nothing about it. Jim Miller Park is a Cobb county park. Its not a state park or private - its county owned. They host all kinds of rodeos, fairs, and other shows - like the Georgia Street Rod Association held their annual swap meet there this past weekend. Its right next door to the really big county complex.
You might want to try and give them a call and ask. I would suspect that they have the sites strictly for use at the shows (like what you are attending). Don't expect anything fancy. The area is OK but there's not a lot of stuff in the immediate area. You have to head north to Powder Springs Rd or south to the East-West Connector to get to anything (due to all the county facilities).

I live near there. The only camping I know of is when the Circus and the fair comes to town. They let the workers camp there.
I've never heard of camping at Jim Miller Park other than during these events.

Thanks! We will certainly give them a call and find out. If need be, we'll make a special trip down just to check it out.

Will be funny if this Tennesseean learns us Atlanta-types a thing or two about our own back yard! Do report back and let us know what you find out.
There are county parks with camping in other towns, why not here?

I was really surprised after searching for three days not to be able to find some kind of place to camp in the Atlanta area.
Our Scout troop is cycling the Silver Comet and Chief Ladiga Trail. They are having to stay at a hotel near the trailhead in Atlanta. I figured campgrounds would pop up all around the trail, but the only one seems to be RockMart which we will be using for one night. The closest RV park I found was in Norcross, and the closest true camping I found was at McKinney Campground (COE) and Stone Mountain, but both had two-night minimums and both were at least 25 miles from the trailhead.

FWIW, Redtop Mtn State Park is practically next door to McKinney, closer to I-75, and has a Pioneer camping area that runs $25/night + $1/person over 25 people. But it's still probably a 30 minute drive to the Smyrna trailhead.
We do have a dearth of camping options once you get close to the metro area, that's for sure.

I know there is a paved, full hookup campground at Miller Park, but I always assumed it was for the use of the circus and the fair workers. When you attend one of those events you can see all their RV's parked behind the fairgrounds, at the base of scenic Mt Trashmore. I have never seen it opened at any other time.
There is a campground in Marietta, it's called Brookwood RV Resort. It's right off I-75 at Delk Road. Here is their info:
