We recently purchased a Mac Pro Laptop and the Verizon Broadband Modem UM150 (USB) for Verizon's Broadband access.

So far everything seems to work well when connected; however, I have several questions/concerns that I cannot seem to find the answers to:

1) Does a USB modem require that you physically unplug the modem from the USB port when not using the laptop? We find that if we leave the modem plugged in when we are not using it, when we try to use the next time, the VZ Access Manager Software cannot detect the modem and we have to "unplug" the modem from the USB port and "reconnect" it. Is this typical behavior?

2) According to the Users Guide, we should have several screens of User Preferences for this software. When we bring up the Preferences we just get one screen: General - (Do you want to automatically look for updates weekly or do it manually.) I'm not sure if we are getting just one screen because this is running on a MAC vs Windows machine or if we have a problem.

We have tried uninstalling the VZ Access Manager Software and reinstalling it, but the symptoms are still the same. We have also looked to see if there is an updated version of the software and we appear to have the latest and greatest.

Is anyone else running this card and software on a Mac and is this typical behavior?

I have been going in circles trying to find a Technical Support email address for Verizon so that I can send them my concerns.

If anyone can help with this, it would be appreciated very much.

Thank you.

Wow, did you read our minds!! Wife just got a new MacBook Pro laptop and a VZ UM150. It does the same thing you are experiencing. She has talked repeatedly with Verizon and gotten nowhere. We know it isn't her computer because our son (Apple software engineer) has been through it. He says it is a VZ software problem. She is continuing to experiment with it to see if she can find an acceptable workaround. It is interesting, because the UM150 works well on my iMac G5 desktop; however, I shut down the VZ150 before putting mine to sleep.

We have an iMac and a Verizon USB 720.

We leave it plugged in all the time. No problem.

I'm not sure if we are getting just one screen because this is running on a MAC vs Windows machine or if we have a problem.

We have the same single option for Preferences.

Under the Help menu, with a blank entry in the search box, there is a choice to email Verizon. It uses the email address "wirelessdata@verizonwireless.com".

If anyone can help with this, it would be appreciated very much.

take a look at EVDO Forum for a method to use the USB modem without the VZAxcess Manager.

Thank you.

Here is a picture of the Preference window for VZAccess Manager on my Windows laptop.

I haven't contacted Verizon support in a couple of years. Here is the number I used then. 1-800-922-0204

I found them to be very helpful.

I am using a Verizon USB720 air card with my Mac and have no problems. Everything you stated about your program is the same as mine also.

I really do not know how to solve your problem. I have read where certain air cards do not work with certain routers and vice versa. You may have a similar problem.

I would suggest you check out EDVO.com or their sister web-site 3GStore.com. You will be amazed with the information that is available there. You may try calling them. They are very knowledgeable on this subject. One of them is a member and regular visitor to this forum.

Check it out and hope this helps.

I just dumped the Verizon Access Manaager software, and everything seems to work fine.

First, I started the Access Manager, then selected "Uninstall" (I don't remember if it was on the VZ Access menu or on the file menu?)

Then I selected Apple--->System Preferences--->Network

Then I selected Novatel CDMA and set configuration = default, Account name = 1234567890@vzw3g.com, and set the password = vzw (actually, the 1234567890 is the phone number of my USB 720)

Then selected Advanced, then PPP, then checked "connect automatically when needed", and unchecked everything else, then hit OK, then Apply.

I also disabled all the stuff I'm not using like the Ethernet interface.

It works like a charm.

Does your Preferred Roaming List (PRL) update automatically? If not, how do you accomplish the updates?

I don't know yet. However, if I do "About Verizon Card" it tells me the PRL version. If it seems to get out of sync, I'll reload the Verizon Access Manager (I have a disk image loaded on my HD) and let it update the PRL, etc., then uninstall it again.
