What is the road like to pull a big 5er thru? Want to make some side trips and see the Grand Canyon. Where is a good RV park? Thanks

Get a copy of Mountain Directory West for details of the steep and curvy roads in the west. www.mountaindirectory.com

89 is fine for you - before end of Sept. if you want to see the North Rim of GCNP. Mtn.west directory is not very useful - it scares too many folks off some of the best roads!
It seems to be Dick's answer to all questions??

An addendum - on rte. 89 or 389 (also OK) Stop in/near Fredonia and take the day trip south to see Toroweap Overlook -one of the most spectacular views of the Canyon that is accessible by vehicle drop a rock into the river but don't fall off!!

89A turnoff to North Rim, stay right off the rim road or go to Jacob's Lake campground about 46 miles down the road. The road has grades, twists and turns but is scenic. Personally I like the drive from the other direction (Knabb to north rim), the view of the valley is awesome.

If your going anytime soon, north rim becomes closed due to snow and ice. Best after 1 may.
Hey Cruiser I think your right, I looked at that mountain directory and I have driven some of those arizona into utah roads a couple of times in the past six months and for sure I would not have driven them if I had read that directory first. They make simple roads sound ugly. Dick how many of them roads have you driven and than looked at that book after to see if you agree with it cuz I sure dont.

We stayed in Flagstaff and traveled to GC, Sedona, Williams etc. J&H Campground, small but a nice spot, good folks running it.
