We know how bad the chinese quads are,
but we think we're going to start them off in one of those. If they decide they like it and get better at it, we'll invest for a name brand later. We won't feel as bed if they scratch it or damage it while learning to ride it. We'll start w/ one and then add as needed, if they still want to.
I tried this and trust me, it didnt go well.
The problem is that they dont run lomg enough for them to decide whether they like it or not, getting parts can be a challenge.
I went thru a Eton 90 a Kymco 90, finally bought him a Honda 90 and guess what? Probably have 1000 miles on it and only thing I have done to it is front brakes.

I have had 3 small quads, the Yamaha Raptor 80, the Honda TRX 90 and the Polaris 90. Honda was nice but no e-start, both the Yamaha and Polaris have e-start so it's a toss up between the 2. All 3 are good quads but I like the e-start so I do not have get off my bike or quad and start the little one up again.

I bought a 2001 Suzuki for my daughter last year for $900. At the end of the season she decided to move to a motorcycle. I sold the quad for $1100. All I did was polish the plastics, changed the oil, and adjusted the auto-clutch. If you buy one of the knock-offs you will be lucky to get half of what you paid for them on resale.

The reason I bought two 50's instaed of moving my kids to an 80 or a 90 was because of the size of the hand controls (levers). My 8 y/o boy is just now getting to the point that he can grab the levers correctly on the 90 quads. They have just been too large and too far away from the bars for the smaller kids to be able to grab comfortably.
I have a Suzuki LTZ50 that is a very small frame with very small controls. My 5 y/o daughter can reach and pull them just fine with her small hands. There is no way she can reach and pull the brakes on the larger frame Etons.
And your kids will be wanting more in a year or two no matter what you do!!!
Good luck!

The 50 would be a good size for the 3 month old

Our 6 y/o son has a Chinese 110 and we have the throttle turned down. He loves it and is able to control it pretty well. He also has a Honda XR50 Dirk Bike and for now would rather ride the quad. Good Luck.

Yeah, but by the time the kid reaches 6 months they will need at least a 250. Unless of course they are some kind of sissy.

I am alreading planning on loosing my Honda Rancher to my boys in a few years and will be looking for the side by side for the wife and I.
Thanks for all the great advice.
Is there anykind of compression check or pressure check to see if the quad will be needing a rebuild soon. If there is any kid of check how do you do the check?

That is a good start. My youngest started on a 50 and never rode it, now that she moved up to the 90 she rides all the time. Turns out the 50 was boring because it was too slow. The most important things are safety gear and teaching them the right thing.

Just curious if you've considered a dirtbike instead? Although my DW thinks quads are safer, I disagree.
I ride an atv and my son rides the dirtbike. Wish I had learned to ride a bike at an earlier age.
