We bought our PUP in December. We haven't even slept in it yet. We got a great deal on a very basic little trailer.
Still, I look at the RV ads on craigslist every day -- I've picked up a few accessories, and sometimes there are ads with neat pictures of vintage rigs that are fun to look at.
This morning there is an ad for a 1972 Apache Ramada. It's in perfect condition. It's got that funky-retro charm. It must be the biggest PUP Apache made. It's about 100 miles south of here. And, to top it off, the asking price is a mere $1250.
Waaaaah. I want it.

Just start chanting...."I don't need it. I don't want it! It probably has wood rot, rust and termites! It will be a money pit!" 100 times. Then if you still want to buy it, call "1-800-555-givemethemoney" and I'll swing by to pick up your spare cash. It's painfully obvious you can't be trusted!

So go look at it. If its a good buy get it and sell the PUP. If you bought in December hopefully you got a good deal and could make a little profit.

We moved!! No more nasty neighbors, no more rotten parking. I am saving this picture just to remind myself how bad it was.

I am now having a "meaningful discussion" with my wife about it.
BTW, if you want to see it, go to craigslist - Seattle, go to the RV category, and search for Apache. (I'm not posting the link to the ad here so I don't get in trouble again.)

If it helps, my ex-sil and hers had one of those. The panels blew in during a nor'easter on Hatteras, while my antiquated canvas was ok.

My boyfriend does the SAME thing...every day he tells me about all the great campers he sees on Craigslist and I just say "Really? That's nice...I hope they find someone to buy it". I don't think he finds me amusing...

Had a Mesa years ago. Windows leaked badly when it rained, and the lift mechanism had to be rebuilt -- took a machine shop to remanufacture the parts. After that, I never trusted it to last, so I sold it for our first canvas sided PUP. I'll stick with the canvas...

I have a '73 Apache Roamer - same size as the Ramada, but a different floorplan. These campers are not without their problems, but they were incredibly designed. Personally, I probably wouldn't buy anything older than mine because parts from the '71s and '72s were pretty specific and can be hard to find. But, if it's in good shape (especially the lift system) and doesn't need replacement parts, it looks like a great deal.
Oh...and the 8 people it can sleep need to be really small people. The bed ends are about the size of a full sized bed and the dinette is about the size of a twin. I'm not sure about the gaucho as mine has two dinettes instead. I think many taller people with Ramadas sleep on the gaucho as it gives them more leg room. We have comfortably slept 5 in ours...four adult-sized people and one shrimp.
I love that they have hard sides. When we were looking for a camper, we couldn't afford a new one and every used popup we looked at had water damage to the canvas. We couldn't afford to buy a camper and then replace the canvas. No water damage to the ABS sides on the Apache.
