Since you are at the parks most of the day also consider Tropical Palms in Kissimmee. We just left there about 3 weeks ago and could easily get to disney via shuttle or car in about 8 minutes. Old town is within walking distance and has alot of fun events at night. The super sites are all concrete and plenty big for your coach and toad.
Spots at FW are sometimes tight especially for big rigs. It is a great park though and easy transport to all the parks.

benefits of FW
park itself is beautiful--restrooms excellent
extra magic hours---early and late
transportation
free parking at parks---its now $11 a day
ability to come back easily for break or swim
kitchen on disney property--priceless
I own a lot 10 miles from disney--when I g0 to disney I stay at FW
its probably less important on this trip than the one with the grandkids--but best to get the "lay of the land" now
I agree with everything good that has been said about Disney's Fort Wilderness - A beautiful park, transportation is provided to all of the parks, free movies for the little ones at night, 24 hour heated pool and the list goes on, but to me the sites were way too tight/small to comfortably maneuver in and out of. I was there just last week for my first time and the roads through the different loops were narrow and lined with trees and vehicles that have to park just off of the road because of space. I was able to get into the site I was assigned with about 12"-18" to spare on the side when backing in and pulling out. There were several other 42'- 45' coaches in the park at the time, so big rigs can get in and out, but I wouldn't attempt it unless you are very comfortable in tight places. When making your reservations, I would stress you have a 45' coach... Again, a wonderful-wonderful park. As a side note, I didn't see any signs of anything being upgraded or widening of the roads while we were there and we walked every loop while we were there. Good Luck...

Just returned from KOA Kissimmee (on Seven Dwarfs Lane) and loved it. Close to everything and nice lots. I would not go for super sites if you plan to be gone most of the day. Other sites are just as nice for LESS money.

Another vote for the Fort. Hands down the best, agreed the grounds are tight but if ayou have a 45' coach and drive it at all you will do fine. My truck and trailer together are 58' long and was able get in just fine. If you did bring the toad and let me say if the only place you are going is WDW you do not need it, they have a drop area at the front and you drive it in later. We were there last March and will always stay at the Fort. One thing that I have not seen posted that is a benifit to staying on disney property is the meal plan that is only offered to guest that book through disney. We also just got an e-mail if you are there any time from March-May you can get a park hopper and the water park up-grades for free. This stinks for us we are going in June. These things are only offered to people that book through disney and stay on disney property. QT2

Unfortunately, the water park upgrade discount doesn't apply to the Fort. The Fort stays so booked that they don't need to offer those deals. AAA and Annual Passholder/Florida Resident are about the only discounts offered for the Fort.
I LOVE Ft. Wilderness. My rig is so small that the tightness of sites doesn't bother me. I love the bus transportation. And the simple solution to not having room on your site is to park your tow vehicle or Toad out at the overflow lot. There is no need to keep it at your site!! Bring bicycles, bring your golf cart or rent one to get around inside the Fort. I NEVER drive when I'm there, and I'm the Queen of park hopping, resort hopping, and eating at restaurants all over property.
(While still rumor, some Cast Member friends of mine have seen on their computer screens a new category at the Fort called Deluxe Campsite) so there are going to be at least a couple of loops cleared out even further and sites widened. Of course until they pour the concrete and open it, nothing is fact at Disney.

One of the best parts of camping at Fort Wilderness.....you can go back to the campground for a few hour during the hottest part of the day and have a lunch and nap or a swim.......then go back in to the parks all refreshed. And you don't have to drive to do it.
Fort Wilderness is definitely the way to go for most of the reasons already listed. It's very convenient and once you arrive, you won't need your car for anything, other than activities off Disney property.
