We have a 2003 Tahoe and pull a 30TT with no problem. The TT is about 7000#'s. Our Tahoe has a 5.3L with a 4.10 rear end and the tow package, you will want to look for that if you look for a Tahoe or Yukon. Good luck in you decision.

We pull with a shorty Yukon. Although it's a 2007 with a bigger engine - the wheelbase is the same so i'll comment on that.

Our trailer is 29' from ball to bumper. We have experienced zero sway issues with our set up and we have towed through some major winds. We get little to no push/pull from passing semi's with our set up.

"with our set up" are the key words to remember. You can have the best truck, trailer and hitch but if it's not set up properly you can still get sway and have a horrible towing experience. Getting the proper equipment and setting it up PROPERLY is the key.

With either vehicle - the Durango or the Tahoe - you will need to get away from your simple friction bar type hitch and invest in a better WD w/sway control hitch. There are 2 more popular one's here - that is the Equalizer (brand name) and the Reese Dual Cam. Both have weight distribution and anti-sway bars. The Equalizer is an all in one hitch - everything comes with the hitch. Easy to set up and hitch and unhitch - it's what we use and are very happy with it and because we are set up PROPERLY we have zero towing issues regarding sway. The Reese Dual Cam is another one that is highly regarded - but I cannot comment about it since I have not used it.

If money is not an object, looking into the Hensley-Arrow hitch.

We like our Yukon (sister car to the Tahoe) and we also own a 2005 Suburban w/4.10's that we bought used. Like them both and both pull the trailer just fine.

Side note: If your buying a used Tahoe/Yukon or Suburban/yukon XL you will want to change out your receiver. GM has had some issues with the round tube crossbar receiver and bad welds and some hitch failures. This is an easy fix to remove and replace - less than $200.00 to do.

Thanks for the advise. I agree - I think I need a better hitch setup and either would be fine.

Just an FYI Tahoe/Yukon doesn't offer 3rd row seat unless you go with Suburban/Yukon XL.
Here is a towing info for those vehicles
2005 Tahoe

2005 Suburban 1500 and 2500

2005 Dodge Durango

This is NOT true. In fact, just try to find a Tahoe WITHOUT a third seat!

I can go look in my driveway, how about that?

You might want to correct your statement to say, any Tahoe from the year 2000 and newer could, and most likely will, have a third row seat.

Into snowmobileing and towing a 5000 lb load 4 place inclosed trailer. Before we got the 2500HD we had both 99 Durango 5.7 and 03 yukon Denali 6.0. No competion The yukon was better in every way including Milage and Power and les sway.

I am not sure about your 99 Dodge Durango but since 2004 Dodge released a new re-designed Dodge Durango improved alot compared to the previous models. Here is a review of Top 10 vehicles towing

1999 Dodge Durangos didn't have a 5.7 V8. No disagreeing that a 4 year older, bigger, more powerful Denali was a better TV than the old Durango......but the newer ones might be a different story.
