This strikes a chord in me. Last year, I drove 3 1/2 hrs each way to fight a $369 ticket. They dropped the case as soon as I showed up in court. It's one of those ridiculous ticket written on the basis of some CB radio communication. The cop was 20 min away from the scene. And I've been 20 yrs without a ticket.

I agree ...
What's the CB got to do with your ticket. I don't understand your "beef" with the law?

TKW-
Way to go, sometimes it is the principal that overrides money. I have done things similar in the past, but it was a contractor that still owed me some money. Principals and morality are sometimes overriding factors.
I went to college out at Langley many years ago, we would sit in chairs on the soccer field above HWY1 and watch the speed trap in action. We would bet on which vehicles would be pulled over. We were right above the RCMP with the radar and could see a couple of RCMP down the HWY. This was set up both ways. Quite a deal.

I think TKW is saying HIS ticket was based on someone calling on a CB and saying he was speeding.

Please read the original post in its entirety before challenging the OP. No where did he say that this news story was related to his experience that he had a "year ago" only that it reminded him of his own experience. "struck a chord"..... His reference to the CB was obviously in relation to his own experience not the one quoted in the newspaper. JMHO nuf said.....

There are a lot of "I thinks" or "I believe" in these responses and I'll say again, show me where the highlighted words were spoken, not implied, when you bad mouth a LEO, doing his job.

This article about the person in the link is the fact that he went by a stopped patrol car at to great a speed. There are some states in the lower 48 that have a law that states on a 4 lane or greater highway, when you see a stopped patrol car along the shoulder of a highway with the red and/or blue lights on, that you are required to move over one lane to the left and reduce speed until you pass. I think Nevada is one state but I am not real sure. So beware, it could happen to any of us unless we take caution. I drive a Pilot car for oversize loads in California and we always move over one lane and reduce speed when we have to pass a stopped patrol car, even if we are empty. It is just common courtesy to the officer standing on the side of the road not to blast him with your "Air wake" when you go by.
I just looked up in the California DMV regulations and "Copied and Pasted" this information, effective 2007.
Quote
"Move Over & Slow Down
Effective January 1, 2007, drivers are required to Move Over and Slow Down when approaching a roadside emergency along a state highway or freeway. The law is designed to reduce the deaths of police officers, towtruck drivers, paramedics and other emergency personnel who are aiding stranded motorists. Use caution if lane changes are required."
Unquote
Other states are probably the same but furthur research will have to be done.
Makes sense to me.

So does Indiana, and yes, they are tough on this one! Too many policemen have been hit on the side of the road. If you see two police cars together with one car pulled over, you BETTER move over or slow way down. If you can't, the second car is there to go after anyone speeding by without yielding by moving over! And, especially around Indianapolis, it's common for police to work in tandum (together) in 2 cars for this very purpose.
