I just bought a 2008 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4x4 V6.
Does anyone have any experience towing this?
Do we have to remove fuses???
Unique proceedures to unlock steering? Will it stay unlocked as long as we leave the key in???
What's the best way to hook up the tail lights? Mine has the diode lights.

Any information will be appreciated.
Thanks

Are you talking about towing 4 down? If so, I'm not sure this vehicle is approved for that without some modifications like a transmission pump?????

The 2008 Motorhome Magazine Dinghy Guide doesn't even list Toyota trucks. Are you able to put the transfer case in neutral? If you can I'd put the transfer case in neutral, the shifter in neutral and leave the steering wheel unlocked. I also wouldn't want to mess with the LED tail lights. I'd get a set of auxiliary towing lights.

Check your owners manual but I believe that Toyota does not recommend any of their vehicles be towed 4 down unless they have a manual transmission. This being the case you would have to install a transmission pump if available. Otherwise you any transmission failure will not be covered under warranty if it fails.

According to the owner's manual my 2007 Toyota 4runner cannot be towed 4 wheels down. You will have to put it on a trailer or figure out something else.

I don't think you need the lube pump BUT you do need the drive shaft disconnect from Remco. Check and see if you have room in the tail light to install separate bulbs & socket for your towing lights.

OP says it's a 4 X 4, that means it needs more than just a single driveshaft disconnetc. He'll need two and I don't think Remco makes them for the front. Trailer seems to be the only way since it's not towable four down.

I thought that the lube pump was an option to use instead of a drive shaft disconnect so either would work. of course I have read here about lube pumps failing, but I had a drive shaft disconnect on a S-10 PU once and hated it.

Spaceman007,
You CANNOT tow this vehicle 4 down. (it's a 4X4 automatic)
The only way you can dolly it is if you disconnect the rear driveshaft.
You CAN drive it up on a car trailer and pull it that way.
Did you buy this with the intention of towing it?
Nice vehicle to drive, terrible vehicle to tow.
