After a LONG drive through the rain from Atlanta to Panama City, we finally arrived last night to our campground (St Andrews State Park - one of our favorites). As we are making the final turn (and after experiencing several flooded roads) we find the road to the campground COMPLETELY flooded and unpassable - emergency vehicles are even blocking the road. They say its the most rain this area has seen in a LONG time - and just in time for us!
Anyway, wife says we ARE going to get a hotel room (rather than give a Wal mart a try). This is only our 3rd trip in the big rig and she isn't quite ready to boondock at a Wal Mart.
After plopping down $100 on the hotel, finally got into park this AM and fortunately our site seems to have survived (the road in was clear but debris all over). Lots of sites are still flooded from all the rain and more rain coming today. Just hoping to survive a few more hours then should have beautiful weather. For all others on the FLA Gulf coast this weekend, Good Luck!!!

I'm glad you got into the campground. If I were you, I would've still stayed at Wal Mart! It would have been $100 less!

I hope this never happens to you again, but Campers Inn is just a short distance from there on Thomas Drive and is on a little higher ground, would have been good for a night.

Well we just got back and yea, at least for Panama City it looks like the drought is over (but Atlanta - not so much!). Panama City ended up with about 10 inches of rain that Thursday and when we left this afternoon (Sunday), the ground was still soaked with pooled water all over. BUT - once Friday at Noon hit, the weather was perfect (and the park was reopened). Kids even played in the ocean although the wife and I said no way (water was freakin' cold - to be a kid again!) Didn't wear a hat so the noggin is sunburned but the weather really came through in the end.
For those going to the park - site 24 is perfect. Right on the water and you just throw a few scraps of bread out and 30 seagulls and 4 ducks come out of no where to attack. It was funny and right out of Alfred Hitchcock's movie. Kids had a blast with it. HIGHLY Recommend this park. They even have a special ocean 'pool' for the little ones when mom and dad get tired of watching them in the big waves. Very shallow and roped off just behind a jetty so wind is low and waves are very small. Just hop back over the hill about 100 yards and back to the big stuff.

Is the beach nice in site 24? We are planning a trip for April of 2009 and I'm trying to do my homework on good sites. I have a few that I was told were good and I've seen site 24 mentioned before. Our TT is 30' btw. Oh and if you have any pics of your site or any others you think I would like to see I would love it. Thanks!!

All the camping spots are on the bay or close to it. You have to walk or ride, albeit inside the confines of the park, to get to the "beach".

Right, I knew that. I should have phrased my question a bit different....sorry about that. I know that some of the waterfront spots on the lagoon have a rocky beach...I was looking to stay away from the rocky section and we wanted a nice view. Thanks though...I appreciate it. :-)
