Keep checking with Onan Ind.com. Sometimes they have used or rebuilt units that come with a warranty for a reasonable price (1000-1200). I have a 95 RT 190V that came with a 7500 btu A/C. After it crapped out on me for the second time last year I decided to replace it. Lots of fun pulling that out again, but I found a 8000 in Wally that was close in size and with slight modification fit nicely. Only $169 on sale-last one on the shelf. When this unit's compressor kicks in it does not seem to bog down the genny as much, maybe because it is new,but you still need something with around the same power as the 2800.
I looked for a used Onan as long as I could and didn’t find one. And because it’s Pocono this coming weekend then Watkins Glen with no hookups the next my girlfriend got nervous and paid for the install $420 at Cusson Automotive and Onan dealer in South Winsor, CT (friendly and good service and recommended by Van’s a RV dealer and the Onan rep). I didn’t argue because the genset set me back $2540 and if there was a problem with it I’m sure there would have been issues with getting it replaced. The additional $301 for exhaust pipe and misc was over-the-top but that’s garage markup.
I found out two weeks ago that the person who stole my GMC (dumped the Onan) plus a few other cars, etc… got 5 years, 2 years incarceration and 3 years probation with restitution of $2781 as a requirement. I hope the prosecuting attorney was just using $5 a week as an example, 2 years then 10 years 8 months with a dropping dollar ain’t full restitution but that’s better Justice than $0 witch is what I put in my retirement calculator!
Hi,
Your inquiry about installing a 5000 btu unit calls for a reply. We had a home converted van camper (short wheelbase Ford chassis) and had a 5000 btu unit installed in the back of the tall camper top. Our unit had significantly smaller interior volume than a RT 190, and the a/c was totally inadequate in weather over 80 deg F. I would suggest nothing smaller than 7500-8000 btu in a camper of this size.
Just happened to be looking at Criags List in Denver and found this 4.0 Onan Generator. Priced at $900.00 doesn't sound bad. About the same money as a Honda 2000 portable with the fuel pump and electric start - Arvada Onan 4.0 RV generator .

Roadtrek is currently installing 12,000btu heat pumps in the RT 190's. I do not believe it would be a good idea to go below 10,000 btu.
