If you want to maintain a NC address, but travel for extended periods, why not consider a UPS Store or Mom and Pop type mail forwarder in your town? They will take care of your needs exactly as you spelled it out with just a phone call. "Hold my mail" or "Ship it to XXX Address to arrive before Friday"

I lived where your mail box was at the end of your drive way ,my mail box was repeatedly mowed down by snow plow trucks. I switched to a po box. Hmmmm, It was at this time I realized that I would KEEP this po box when I went full time.

I was told that I could not get insurance, open a bank account nor obtain a credit card using a po box......which is all bunk. There is no law that says you can not use a po box to receive your mail. It's a suburban myth of people that can't comprehend going to get your mail at the post office versus receiving it at your door.

When I sold my house and went to deposit the money in a bank before leaving, the bank managaner said the same thing....need an address.....just sold my home don't have an address, duh!.....didn't you buy another home.....no....well then we will open your account with your old address until you do.....soooo you want me to lie to the bank and send my statements to a place I just sold?

I have car insurance, a credit card, dr license and a bank account using a po box in my original state of residency.

They can NOT take all that away from you. Not all people who sell a home have 'already' put in an offer on another one, (or plan to travel for 'what ever length of time) before buying another home!.
Henceforth the need for a po box.

DMV did insist I had to have an address 'on' the dr license when I tried to change that to a po box. BUT there IS the option to have a different 'mailing' address, which I used the po box.

Anyone and everyone can obtain a po box. Plan ahead. Get the po box BEFORE you plan to sell you home to full time.

The postal service has a form for temporary change of address. It is good for 6 months. Every 6 months you send in the card to the Post office and they forward your mail to 'where ever' you want. And there is no limit how many times you do this.......and it's free.

Am I gliding just under the wire? Yes but no more than obtaining an escappees po box. And I get to keep my original state residencey.

So you are using someone else's address for the official address for the driver's license? I don't have to do that - my LEGAL address in Livingston is good for all things. If it works for you fine. But a lot of us have found that it is better to have a legal address and a mail service that can respond more effectively than once every 6 months handing in a 'change of address'. Of course, we full time because we want to see the country so we are never in the same place for more than 2 weeks. BTW - we aren't gliding under any wire.

In 2005, FL DMV also required a physical address for where we live/park the RV when we're in the area. We put down the RVPark address.

We use the office address for our mailing address and our address at the winter RV park for physical address for voting, etc. Since I travel for business as well as pleasure there are some tax advantages to maintianing a permanent address so we keep the space in the RV park year round. It's in the mobile home section and has a street address thus qualifing as a permanent address for per diem, etc.
