Rebuilt the transmission in my Ford, and was discussing with the shop how often to change the trans fluid, they recommend every year or 10000 miles if towing like most of us here do. How often are members changing fluids????????????

I would check the operators manual. I drain and refill mine every 30 thousand. That is the service interval laid out in the manual. I wuld not do that except for the towing.

Yes, 30,000 miles is the magic number to change or flush the Transmission Fluid.
This advise is coming from a Ford Transmission Tech of 48 years, retired 2 years ago and loving it!!!!!!!!!!

Transmission job was 3 grand, seems like a pittance to change the fluid and filter once a year, 100-150.00. thinking too, might catch problems before they get too big???????? My transmission was excellant right up till last week when I put it in drive and it went no where.

Who Re-Built the Trans? And what did they recommend?

AAMCO did mine. W/ a life-time guarantee! I must bring it in on the month it was re-built (03). For them to check it. It's there Trans. I get to use it.

I was making a trip to Altoona, PA.
They ask if I wanted to have it flushed before I left. I said yes! And the trip was trouble free. Well except for (2) RIMS.

I just did the first fluid change on my Mercedes with 240,000 miles.
After checking the pan for no dirt and cutting the filter to discover minimal dirt in it, I assume it was done prematurely.
The manufacturer says "lifetime".
The engine has 700,000 miles life expectancy.

A local chain did mine, two year warranty, high performance parts, billet torque converter and a shift kit, told the guy what I hauled and how often and that I don't want to be 100 miles up the highway and on the side of the road with a busted transmission. He kept the truck for the week and did what he had to do to meet what I require. He did his thing, and I paid the bill. He says to bring in the truck once a year for a service, seems reasonable to me.

Truck is a 95 Ford Powerstroke, truck I custom built a number of years ago. Only has 120 miles on it. No chips or high performance parts on engine, don't need it. like the Aamco life time warranty, but probably not available up here in Canada. like the yearly inspection too.
