Gee it shouldn't have any effect on your connection. It's kinda like wondering why you have a flat tire after changing the oil!
I assume you have rebooted it?
Once in a while I can't get online so I reset my router/modem.
Maybe try that - either switch off the power on the modem if equipped with a switch or unplug the power cable for about 10 seconds and then plug it back in and wait a minute for it to initialize.
Sometimes, when all else fails, reset everything.

Can you restore to a prior checkpoint? Sounds like you registry may have gotten zapped.
Open network connections and try a disable/enable procedure on that connection. You can check the validity of the IP address there also.
Check connection status. Possibly clicking on "repair" is all that's required.

I just reread your post, this might not be your trouble but it could be. It was my problem so here is what I had to do.
EDIT
It is your Linksys router. It has to be reset to work with a "cable internet" connection. Mine did the same thing. Leave the ethernet cable hooked up to your lap top, go on line to the linksys web site, find your router under products and then look for "Making the router work with "cable internet" and click on it and it will guide you through the process, finding your IP address, ect. basically you will have to "Mac Address Clone" the router to some format that cable internet connections need. It will show you how to connect to the router with another ethernet cable until you get it set up and then you will have to reboot everything and then the lap top will connect thru your wireless after that. I just had to go through this with my WRT54G router. It is best to print out all of the instructions before you start. Make sure that you follow the directions for your OS as there are directions for XP, MAC, 2000, Vista, ect.
I will put a link for you. Linksys
Look at the middle of the page under "Solutions" Click on "set up router to work with a cable connection" or words to that effect and go from there.

I'm on Roadrunner too.
Just removing Macafee Software)shouldn't effect the router, i don't think.
If you just used the Macafee uninstaller or the Add/remove from Control Panel shouldn't have done it.
Possibly Macafee had made some connection changes.
just plug your RR modem straight into you PC (bypass the router).
If everything works then the router is the problem.
If you turn off the Router, wait about 3 minutes and then turn it on the modem will get the I Address from the Router and all should be well.
Personally I wouldn't clone unless you have to.
I know I'm missing something here but it's early I haven'thad my second cup of stimulant.zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Fire up the Modem first and let it talk to the router
Then let the router talk to the PC.
Hey Chief, I'm not a geek but was a grunt. When we changed over to Road Runner, There was a three way fight between the firewall's after a auto up date with McAfee. We could open send and receive E-mail via Out Look but couldn't get IE, or Fox Fire to open. I spent many hours on the phone from here to India and only got more frustrated, so I did the only logical thing a Grunt would do I called on the Geek Squad. He explained it to me in Geek talk so I have know idea what he did other than it had something to do with my old providers Firewall/ AV protection (AT&T), Road Runners and McAfee. Took him all of 10 min. to find the problem. Lots of luck ship mate.

I've got an Air Force twidget buddy that will fly in as soon as I can clear an LZ for him. (My answer to the Geek Squad)
I've been trying to work my way through the suggestions others have offered, but no joy.
Heck, I've even taken the advice of Uncle Bob and changed oil and checked the air in the tires on the truck. Darn computer still won't connect.
Since the iMac and Windows lap top still connect without a problem through the modem and router, I figure it's a software issue with the computer trying to communicate with the________. (You fill in the blank)
I'm new to Apple and this is just speeding up my migration to Mac, though it's not on my terms.
If you are running XP SP2:
Open a command prompt and type...
netsh winsock reset
Now reboot.
This will reset your Windows IP stack to "new".
The problem is McAfee's bundled firewall. Norton is notorious for it as well. When they "uninstall" they leave remnants of themselves on the computer and in the registry.
Have you also already installed a replacement product for McAfee? Does it include a firewall as well?
