It's hard to share something nice with others without someone coming along and knocking it. So much hatred around the world.

I found the OP's article hopeful. Things do improve and get better. Thanks goodness all countries aren't alike. It would make for a pretty boring world. I couldn't imagine only having two choices; McDonalds or KFC (yuck).

I just read an interesting article about all the Americans buying in Baja and all the great investment, money and opportunity they bring with them which shows in the local economy.

There are things about which we don't agree, but I sure agree with you on this one.

Diane:

Thank you for that info. We have decided that next year we will go to Baja. Even if I have to arm myself or bring a big dog ( just kidding)

Buenas Dias Moisheh. Angela had a whack of pictures of our Baja adventure up on our website (see signature block). This is a beautiful country and I'm sure you'll like it as much as we do. Although one must always travel wisely, especially in a foreign country, it's interesting for us that the last time we heard gunshots was the last day we were in San Diego. (Pretty much back ground noise there Seriously though we have seen nothing that would lead us to believe that travel here is any riskier than the US. The only place we haven't really been partial to is Cabo San Lucas although we enjoyed a week on the beach watching the sceenery walk by .

Take care and have fun.

By that time more of the road to our place will be paved---good and bad. Dang, too many gringos are finding this place and since we bought, more are buying. Seriously, even if the road is still part dirt, I hope your rig will be up to it so you can stop by our place.

It was fun paying our property taxes. The first time we went, they were not ready. Then they had no receipts---that happens at the water company all the time. Then the girl was confused as to how we could own a place. We took her a copy of part of our fidieocamiso (sp). Ours is the first Fidieocamiso (sp) in town.

Chris is correct about the real-estate boom, albiet slowed dramatically in some areas with the downturn in the US and the problems. But it is happening too fast for us here!

Baja is really beautiful this year---more rain than usual, so green and more flowers---here are a few wildflowers in our front yard and near by.

Diane nice pics, I expect a lot of Baja to be greener than usual with all the rain, hopefully we will find it that way. We are headed your way, one stop will be close to you at Ojo de Liebre, we plan on going out to see the whales. ETA is 3-5-08
We considered camping in your piece of paradise, B.A., but I am leery of the road with my rig.
Can you tell me if Santa Rosalita has any camping? I heard the road is very good all the way from the carretera.
We will be on the look out for any forum members down there to share a Pacifico with. I always find a Baja Nomad or two on the beaches to share stories and beer with.

As far as the improvements in N. Baja I think it is in the promise phase, looks good on paper!

moisheh looks like next year we might be exchanging destinations. We plan on a mainland trip, we haven't been for years.

Iguana, we'll be in Ojo de libre on the 4th or 5th of march. Look for the Vanguard. Don't have any pacifico but I'm sure there'll be a sol in the fridge. We are only there for a day as we are heading for bahia de Los angeles. We might miss you. If we do happry trails.

First - let me say this, Baja is one our favorite places in the world!

That said let us not forget - the border towns have for quite some time been rowdy, loose, wild, & even a little crooked, TJ was about as rowdy as any, I think it has improved a lot from the middle 50s,
But I am sure you can still get in all the trouble you want.

We have a way in handling this siuation, for the most part - going south we cross early morning and drive until we are some south of Ensanada, coming north we practice the same.

To go a little farther we drive only in the day time, we do not walk around in alleys at night.

The place is great the people are friendly for the most part, go with a smile on your face and remember you are in forgein country.

Take care
