We are Ohioans and are currently wintering in Mesa, AZ. My folks spent over 20 years in the RGV during the winter. We have visited FL a lot and are familiar with its possibilities. While we have really enjoyed our time in AZ this winter, we would ideally like to be closer to kids and grandkids in NC. Does anyone winter in areas east of the Mississippi River outside FL and are there developed RV resort type communities that have the activities of the typical 55+ parks in AZ and FL? We have spent time in Hilton Head where I have a sister and they do have 2 nice RV resort communities but they are really just places to stay in the area and are not really organized with activities such as those we have enjoyed in AZ this year...you know, cards, shuffleboard, painting class, sewing rooms, stained glass rooms, shows, and the list goes on. While some may not want any of these, we are interested in places that have such activities as well as some permanence (year to year) so that you get to know folks and enjoy the ongoing relationships over the years.
So, if you have experiences, either positive or negative, about wintering in areas east of the Mississippi River and outside FL, please post.
Thanks
Mark

That may be pretty limited masman but since you are limiting it to east of the Mississippi, all other area suggestions will be deleted.

I think the major limitation would be the level of comfort you're willing to put up with. There is a vast difference between a campground and a snowbird RV resort. A place that you can put up with for a week could make you miserable over the winter.
Most resorts with amenities are in Florida with a few in Alabama and Miss.

What about Myrtle Beach? I would imagine off season wouldn't have many kids. There are a lot of parks there. You should call and find out what thay offer during the winter.
You may want to check out Sugarmill Plantation, in Thomasville, Georgia, or Deer Run, in Troy, AL. Both have websites, and both had quite a few seasonal residents. Also, here is a website you can go to to pick the state, then the city, whose average monthly temperature you want to see.
