I THOUGHT I was interested in buying a Ford Escape Hybrid, but in the Houston area, there are none to be found apparently. (So much for no demand on hybrids! as MSNBC likes to report.)
If you have purchased a Ford Escape Hybrid lately, how did you do it?
How long did it take to before you could drive it home?
One dealer told me they only get "2" a year. 2, two, yes 2. Houston has about 6 million people? And they get 2 a year. Sounds like the lottery to me.

The Cincinnati Enquirer had an article about this. They said you get a credit on your income taxes (about $2,000, if memory serves), and since Ford makes very few of them they are almost impossible to get. Most of them are sent to New York, LA, or other big city area. None of our local dealers seem to have any in stock. Good luck.

"big city area"?? Houston ain't no one horse, one red light little town by no means. Seems like we would qualify!

Don't feel too bad--there are none in San Antonio, neither--I just checked dealer inventory.

Hey, I didn't write the article, I just quoted it (or misquoted it, whichever). Houston is definitely a big place, I tend to avoid it if at all possible because they've had traffic jams every time we've gone through. Everyone there should be driving hybrids, just look at how much gas it would save. The article just said most of the Escape Hydrids get sent to NY and LA (or maybe it was Boston). Didn't mention Houston anyway, or Cincinnati for that matter.

Same problem with the Mercury Mariner. None available. Since it is basically the same auto, it suffers from the same "endangered species" list.

I drove one in November and was considering it hard until I discovered the batteries are $6900 to replace.

It was a Mariner - they still have it on the lot in Decorah Iowa - Ford dealer.

Good Luck

God Bless

I think the batteries have a 10 year warranty though. Darn thing will be outdated by then.
